Grown-is star Halley Bailey is cast as Ariel in The Little Mermaid remake

Halle Bailey from the R&B duo Chloe x Halle is officially cast as Ariel in The Little Mermaid remake.

Bailey’s casting as our favorite mermaid is a fresh new take on the Disney animated classic. While she’s missing Ariel’s iconic red locks, the Grown-ish star is definitely more than capable to take on the role. After all, we might even still see her rocking red hair if that’s what Disney creatives go for.

Director Rob Marshall who’s set to helm the live-action remake knew that Bailey was a top choice for the role. Speaking to Variety the director said with regards to her casting:

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance—plus a glorious singing voice—all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

The talented singer and actress is half of the music duo Chloe x Halle. She makes music with her sister Chloe Bailey. The two are known for playing twin track stars in the sitcom Grown-ish. The pair’s musical talents were discovered by Beyonce herself and now, they’re under the superstar’s label. Since signing onto the pop icon’s music label, their fan base not only includes Grown-ish viewers but also Michelle Obama. A pretty big deal, don’t you think?

Bailey’s upcoming appearance as the lead on The Little Mermaid will mark her first feature film debut. Although, the rising star has made a cameo in 2018’s Lemonade. The remake will feature new music from Moana’s Lin-Manuel Miranda. Original music from the 1989 original soundtrack.
