Jive

Jive’s the funkiest place in the west end of adelaide….

Jive’s big blue building knows a thing or two about reinvention, and about possessing a colourful, whirling history. This place was once a theatre and later became the legendary toucan nightclub in the 70’s. It then underwent 2 decades of bewildering changes: reborn as a bar, nightclub, risqué strip joint, and a comedy club. Today, jive is a live music venue for local, national and international acts. It’s original theatre design elements give it a huge advantage over many other band performance venues; making the space an acoustic winner with plenty of character. the stage stands before the sunken dance floor, so drinkers can have clear sight lines from the bar level. For a different perspective, head to the upper level & check out the stage action from the balcony.

Jive exudes a chilled out lounge vibe catering to music lovers, and every saturday night after the bands it is the hippest night spot in town with gosh! And dig, where dj craig spins your favourite indie and 60’s tunes to keep you dancing ’til the wee hours. The bar is well stocked and much effort has gone into making sure the range of wines and spirits is high in quantity, rich in quality.

Excellent club but the tap in the western side pf the mesn room needs to be tighter (the hole tap will rotate when you try to use it) other than that it is a gr8 place to see a band.” – Benjamin Keogh

Black Bull Hotel

The Black Bull Hotel was Adelaide’s First Permanent Hotel, established in 1838.

The site of this hotel dates back from the earliest days of the colony when the first permanent hotel, the Buffalo’s head, was constructed in 1838. It first operated from a tent in Buffalo Row, a makeshift community near the River Torrens in the west parklands and was named by the first owner, James Chittleborough (Snr) who came to South Australia aboard the Buffalo in 1836. The hotel was renamed The Black Bull in 1841.
