Thankfully, Mohamed was able to answer a few of our questions regarding his café business and entrepreneurship in Dubai!

Mohamed, when did you decide to start Snackat Café and was there a specific reason behind it?

The reason behind starting Snackat Café was to create value for our community through empowering a specific group of mainly women. Who can now earn an additional income by utilizing their talents and skills. We are proud now to support more than 450 home based businesses all over the U.A.E.

What do you think makes Middle Eastern food so unique and delicious?

Honestly, I think all home cooked food have a unique feeling and taste to it. Especially when you have that craving for a dish that you have some memories attached to it. I would love to be able someday to try and taste dishes that are home prepared from other cultures and countries.

How would describe the level of competition in the food retail industry in Dubai?

The food retail industry is getting highly competitive. Dubai is a city that over a 150 nationalities call home. I believe this is one of the many reasons why food and beverage business owners are so eager to cater for people’s needs and wants.

What is the reason behind organising some of your offerings into “collections?”

There are many different categories of home cooked food such as sweets, cakes, biscuits in addition to cooked quick bites like vine leaves and many other dishes. We always try to organise our offerings to cater for our customers’ cravings and occasions.

In your experience, are there some products within your range that are more popular than others?

Given our Middle Eastern culture, date flavoured products are always on high demand. Vine leaves in different flavours have a huge fan base as well. We also notice a trend in Japanese inspired desserts and cakes which is quite interesting.

Having started your own café, what type of entrepreneurial skills do you think are required to be successful?

We as entrepreneurs, must have courage to try out new concepts in order to see how people react to our products and services. Especially in a city like Dubai where opportunities and new innovative concepts are widely encouraged.
