Brooke Blomer is the creator and owner of Fitness Wear With Flair (FWWF), a fitness wear company looking to change up the way that the clothes are made. Blomer believes that every person, no matter their shape or size, should be able to wear comfortable active wear that also (most importantly) makes a statement.
Blomer found that active wear generally consisted on one colour, black. And this was how the idea of FWWF was born. Going to the gym or going out for a walk doesn’t need to feel like you are going to a funeral. She developed a stylish line of active wear that included bright colours and bold patterns.
She is also developing her line of active wear and expanding the amount of products on her website. One thing is for sure, there will never be a bland or boring piece of clothing found in her collection. She believes it is time for people to stand out and express their individuality through their active wear.
Tell us a little bit about your background and how you ended up choosing active wear retail industry.
I was in the legal industry for 18 years when I decided to make a change. I only decided to go into this industry due to being asked where I got my cute leggings from or my colourful towels while I was at the gym or even in Woolworths doing grocery shopping.
My Dad happened to comment to me one day while we were out and 4 ladies asked me where I got my outfit from – “you should be selling this stuff to these ladies if they can’t get it”!
I decided to look into being a wholesaler of my favorite brands that weren’t being carried in Australia and made available to us Aussies. So after a year of putting everything together and my Dad being the backbone to helping me get the business off the ground – we launched FWWF.
Did you always know you wanted to start your own business?
No I didn’t – I saw my husband run his so successfully and supported him and his dreams that I knew I could it too. I have had the support of some of the most amazing people in my life that I knew if I did make the leap I would be surrounded by supportive encouraging people that it would be successful.
What would you say was the biggest challenge you had to overcome when starting your own business?
Definitely technology! Aspects such as social media and also website development I found quite difficult to wrap my head around.
These are not things that I have ever had to be aware of or involve with at the level that you have to when you have your own business. However, I have also been keen to learn anything so its just part of the challenge but also growth as a person.
Have you made many mistakes along the way? How did they shape you into becoming who you are today?
I have made a ton of mistakes along the way – however they were lessons that I needed to learn or go through so I could be more aware or educated in that particular area where I was lacking. Learning is the key to growth and I am all about personal growth.
How would you say your business is different to all the other online active wear stores?
The difference is simply that I am offering quality, versatile products that can be used by all ages and sizes – men and women that isn’t just for working out or the gym. Their uses and function are not restricted to the heath and fitness industry.
What would be the top 3 tips you would give to anyone looking to start their own business?
Be passionate about what it is you want to be involved in as it is a big commitment
Surround yourself with the right kind of people – supportive, challenging, helpful, and loyal.
Grow – if you continue to learn and adapt with challenges and obstacles that come your way then you will always evolve and this be reflected and rewarded
What do you think the future holds for Fitness Wear With Flair?
I believe and am hopeful that Fitness Wear With Flair will be a name that people are aware of as an option that they should try for a fabulous range of active wear, fitness wear or sporting products.
