Camila Mendes opens up about her college sexual assault experience

Another actress has bravely come forward about her own experience with sexual assault from back when she was in college. ‘Riverdale’ star Camila Mendes made the heartbreaking revelation that she was drugged and sexually assaulted.

Mendes, who appears on the cover of Women’s Health magazine’s latest issue, dropped the shocking revelation on the cover interview. “I had a very, very bad experience,” she begins describing the traumatic incident. Mendes recalls that it happened on her freshman year at New York University’s Tisch School. Tearing up, she continued: “I was roofied by someone who sexually assaulted me.”

The 25-year-old star revealed how she recovered from her harrowing past by getting inked as a reminder of her strength. She decided to have the phrase “to build a home” tattooed across her ribs. Mendes says this reminds her to create a new life from being a sexual assault survivor.

“Whenever I feel like I’m going through something difficult, I think about what I can do physically for myself,” she tells Women’s Health.

Mendes previously revealed that she struggled with bulimia in the past. “I’ve only recently gotten better,” she tells Entertainment Tonight. “I needed professionals I trusted to tell me things that I didn’t know.” She acknowledges that a therapist and nutritionist helped her recover from the eating disorder.

“When I was a teenager, there were no role models when it came to body positivity-that simply was not a thing. Being thin was the thing,” she says adding that one should always choose their health over their appearance.
