Dr. Raymond Goh

Dr. Raymond Goh
Dr. Raymond Goh

Dr. Raymond Goh completed his medical studies and graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland School of Medicine. Developing an interest in the field of surgery from the very onset of residency, he spent most of his junior doctor years at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, rotating through various surgical subspecialties, and completing his Basic Surgical Training, before progressing onto Advanced Training in General Surgery.

After General Surgery, Dr. Goh was immediately accepted into the training scheme of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, working through all the major tertiary hospitals in Brisbane. He then undertook advanced training in Plastic Surgery in Melbourne for two years, working at St. Vincentā€™s Hospital and the Royal Melbourne Hospital, focusing on the specialty of Hand SurgeryĀ andĀ Microsurgery.

After attaining his fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2007, Dr. Goh undertook a two-year international fellowship in Asia and North America, focusing on the fields of craniomaxillofacialĀ andĀ Cosmetic Surgery. During this time abroad, Dr. Goh had the opportunity and privilege of working alongside world leaders in plastic surgery in internationally renowned plastic surgery units. He still keeps in close contact with his mentors and always looks forward to catching up with them at international meetings.

Dr. Goh is an active member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the International Confederation for Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS), the Queensland Hand Surgery Society (QHSS), and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS).

Dr. Goh believes in being at the forefront of evolution in plastic surgery research and surgical techniques. He enjoys regularly participating in select national and international plastic surgery meetings and master classes. Dr. Goh believes that a fervent desire to learn and to continue to improve patient outcome is absolutely essential to a surgeonā€™s development no matter what level of experience they are at. In addition to ongoing professional development, Dr. Goh is also involved in the training of local surgeons through mentorship, registrar teaching, and as a senior lecturer for the University of Queensland School of Medicine. Dr. Goh enjoys writing and has published extensively, both informally in community and general practice literature, as well as in international peer-reviewed plastic surgery journals and textbooks.

Dr. Goh believes that the key to a successful outcome in many plastic surgery procedures often narrows down to a simplified equation. Firstly, both the patient and surgeon must be able to define and outline the areas they are not happy with or that require restoration/improvement. Secondly, the goals of surgery and expectations on what is reasonably achievable must be clearly defined. And finally, the surgeon must possess the experience and technical expertise to be able to achieve the stated goals, and also to be able to deal with any potential complications should they arise.

Whilst his work in Brisbane Australia can be quite consuming, Dr. Goh tries to fit in and participate in charity surgery missions abroad whenever he can. With organizations such as Interplast and Operation Smile, Dr. Goh joins a team of volunteers to perform reconstructive surgery on children born with facial deformities. Voluntary work that allows Dr. Goh to utilise his skills to change the lives of those less fortunate brings him a sense of reality and a greater appreciation for life. Outside of work, Dr. Goh enjoys spending time with his wife, eating good food, and enjoying the great outdoors.

ā€œI procrastinated on getting this procedure done for years. I was originally referred to another surgeon but felt so uncomfortable with that surgeon I didnā€™t proceed even though I was suffering greatly. My Doctor referred me to Dr. Sharp and although apprehensive I met with him. Dr. Sharp and his team made my experience amazing, I felt comfortable and informed the entire time. The procedure itself has been life changing for me, it is impossible to put into words how extremely grateful I am to Dr. Sharp and his team. Thank you so very much.ā€ ā€“ Wanda Schoenfisch
