Haigh’s Chocolates

Haigh’s Chocolate it was 1st May 1915, when Alfred E Haigh opened the doors of the very first Haigh’s Chocolates store at 34 King William Street, Adelaide. Alfred began adding his own taste to the industry and in 1917 he started producing chocolate-covered fruit centres, which they still create today. Business was booming and it was time to expand. In year 1917 Alfred bought the family land and home at Parkside at South Australia where he built a tiny factory, now the Visitors Centre. In year 1922, he moved shops to the Beehive Corner – still their Adelaide flagship store. Unfortunately in 1933, Alfred passed away suddenly. His son Claude took over the operation of the business, which had by then grown to six more stores.

Koko Black in 2001 Koko Black set off to discover the essence of chocolate which they felt was not being fully expressed in Australia. They had the idea that chocolate could inspire, connect and ignite the senses and dreamed of creating something unique and special. They traveled to Germany to learn the art of making chocolate from the bean and then on to Belgium where they met a passionate and talented chocolatier, who later helped kick start the development of Koko Black’s chocolate signature.
