Where will the upset come from in today’s AFL matches?

Today there are four AFL games being played and for once each of them looks fairly straightforward, tipping wise. This year, of course, that means that there is at least one huge upset coming. Today’s matches in AFL round 10 see Richmond play St Kilda at the MCG, Brisbane vs Sydney at the Gabba, GWS against Essendon at Spotless and Geelong welcoming Carlton to Kardinia.

The first match sees a Richmond side burning for redemption against a struggling Saints. The Tigers were flogged last week in Perth, and will aim to get their season back on track by feasting on St Kilda. They should do it too, considering that they are undefeated this year at the MCG.

In the second game the Lions, fresh off their first win of the season, take on the Swans in Brisbane. The Swans are undefeated on the road this year, and are coming off a 59 point win over Fremantle. The Lions have only won once, but that was an impressive 56 point flogging of Hawthorn last week, so they will be full of confidence. The Swans should still win comfortably.

The Giants and Bombers both sit outside the top 8, and this game is the only one where it isn’t immediately obvious which team is the favourite. GWS have a better record this year, but Essendon have been better in the last few weeks. With the Giants better roster, and the game in Parramatta, they should win this one.

The final match is between a Carlton team that has been rebuilding since the 90’s and the Geelong Cats. Last week the Blues lost by over 100 points to Melbourne, who are good but not fantastic. This weekend it could get even uglier, as Geelong won’t make the mistakes they did against Essendon in their last match. Cats by at least 50.
