Everyone remembers 2016 as the year when multiple A- listers and celebrities died. It’s impossible to forget the deaths of David Bowie, Prince, Alan Rickman and Carrie Fisher all within mere months of each other.
However, it appears that 2019 seems to be giving 2016 a run for its money. It has been a shocking couple of days in Hollywood, with two household names dying in 24 hours.
It has been announced that Riverdale actor Luke Perry and The Prodigy vocalist Keith Flint have both passed away.
Luke Perry
The actor is best known for his roles as a heartthrob in Beverly Hills 90210 and a dedicated, loving father in Riverdale.
The star was rushed to hospital in Burbank, California last Wednesday after suffering a stroke at his home in Sherman Oaks. It is reported that Perry fought for his life before passing away on Monday. A representative for the actor stated “Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke,”
The official statement reads “He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends.”
Many celebrities, including Christine Elise McCarthy, have expressed their devastation at Perry’s recent death. In an emotional Instagram post McCarthy said “He will be mourned and missed by everyone who knew him and the millions who love him.”
Keith Flint
Flint was known for being the provocative front man and co-founder for British band The Prodigy. The band can be thanked for bringing electronic music to the main stream US music scene.
The 49 year old front man was found dead at his home in Dunmow, Essex on Monday. No cause of death has been confirmed, but bandmate Liam Howlett explained on Monday morning that “our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend.”
Fellow Prodigy co-founder Howlett posted a heartfelt Instagram post “I’m shell shocked … confused and heart broken,”
Although the news is shocking, many fans will remember one of Flint’s final interviews and some of the disturbing statements he made. The singer never tried to hide the fact that throughout his life he has experienced “dark periods”. In the same interview, Flint also said that “I’ve always had this thing inside me that, when I’m done, I’ll kill myself.”
The band released an official statement “A true pioneer, innovator and legend… He will be forever missed”.
