Every year, there is a stand out celebrity at the Oscars. It appears that the star that stole the show this year was none other than singer and actress Lady Gaga.
The singer stunned in her performance of ‘Shallow’ with Bradley Cooper and went on to win an Oscar for best original song. However, it wasn’t just her talent that caught the eyes of many; fans went wild over Gaga’s fashion.
The ‘Shallow’ singer wore a dramatic, yet classic Alexander McQueen ball gown with black leather gloves. The dress may have been stunning, but it was impossible not to notice the enormous yellow Tiffany diamond around Gaga’s neck.
The ensemble exuded glamour and embodied avant garde fashion, but also gave a nod to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Gaga’s hairstyle also emulated old Hollywood vibes and many fans recognised the Hollywood legend it was inspired by.
Celebrity hairstylist, Frederic Aspiras confirmed this and stated “The inspiration behind the Oscars look was a classic, modern updo that was inspired by Audrey Hepburn”.
Movie buffs will recognise the iconic hairstyle worn by Audrey Hepburn in the opening scene of ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. In this scene, Hepburn is wearing a sophisticated black dress and French twist updo. Gaga appeared to take her Oscar style inspiration from Hepburn in this well-known scene.
Interestingly, every aspect of Gaga’s outfit appeared to be a tribute to the much loved and admired Hepburn. The incredible Tiffany necklace Gaga wore to the Oscars was in fact worn by Hepburn herself. According to press releases Hepburn “last wore the Tiffany diamond in a necklace for the Breakfast at Tiffany’s publicity photo shoot”.
Many stars have emulated and embodied Hepburn’s style in the past, but what inspired Gaga to make this choice for the 2019 Oscars?
The 32 year old singer’s hairstylist Aspiras admitted that “Her vision normally comes from within what she feels in that moment,” he went on to say that “I think sometimes it comes from… it can come from what is happening in the world”.
The celebrity hair stylist admitted that, like Audrey Hepburn herself, Gaga has a “big heart”. The hairdresser to the stars claimed that “sometimes what touches her fans and what touches her cause is what normally translates through her looks.”
