The top young talents shortlisted to lead Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic

Director Baz Luhrmann has a list of top talents for the role of Elvis Presley in the late singer’s upcoming biopic.

With the success of movie musicals Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, it’s high time that the King of Rock and Roll’s story will get its own silver screen treatment. Now, Deadline reports that a pool of talented young actors has screen tested for to fill his shoes.

The star-studded list includes actors Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver, Miles Teller (Fantastic Four) and Austin Butler (The Carrie Diaries, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood). An intriguing addition to this list is former One Direction singer Harry Styles who made his film debut it Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

Luhrmann is expected to make a decision by next week. Whoever will receive the offer will star alongside Tom Hanks who will play the King’s manager Colonel Tom Parker. It’s a tough choice for the Great Gatsby director as all the stars all have a talent for singing. Styles does have the upper hand when it comes to vocals with his successful music career both as a member of 1D and as a solo artist. However, the rest of the young men have acting experience as an advantage.

The script for the film is written by Luhrmann and co-written by Craig Pearce who worked for him in four movies. The storyline centers the relationship between the young Elvis and his veteran manager. It chronicles the King’s rise to fame and fortune coming from a dirt-poor background and how his contributions changed music forever.
