With 2018 in the rear vision mirror, we now look ahead at 2019 and some of the most highly anticipated films soon to be released. There’s a lot on offer in the year ahead, so be sure to plan ahead if you want the best seat in the cinema on premiere night! Let’s check out which films have got critics and fans talking already.
Toy Story 4
Not many people have recovered from the ending of Toy Story 3, which certainly pulled on the heartstrings. While no one imagined a sequel to the third, if you’re a Toy Story fan, get ready for another installment! A perfect one that the young kids will definitely enjoy.
Glass
“Glass” is the sequel to M. Night Shyamalan’s film “Split”, which was favourably received by critics. Slated to be released January 18, the film will feature a cast of Bruce Willis, James McAvoy and Samuel L. Jackson.
Captain Marvel
This will be a big one for all superhero movie lovers. Starring Oscar-winner Brie Larson, “Captain Marvel” is set during the 1990s and follows superhero/air force pilot, Carol Danvers. The film will be released March 8.
Avengers 4
Projected to be one of the biggest films of the year, if not the biggest, the sequel to “Avengers: Infinity War” is the final chapter of the current Avengers series. While “Black Panther” eventually overtook the third Avengers film, there’s no doubt this one is going to be big. Given the current plot line and trajectory, this film could oversee the departure of some of the series’ flagship stars.
Rocketman
Starring Taron Egerton, “Rocketman” is a biopic about British pop star, Elton John. Set to be released May 17, this one could be a critic favourite.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Land
Quentin’s Tarantino’s latest film will be an exploration of Hollywood during 1969, featuring all the big players. This one is sure to interest critics and die hard Tarantino fans, bringing a star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino and Margot Robbie. Expect this one to pop up in July.
IT: Chapter Two
In the sequel to the film that terrified audiences in 2017, Pennywise the Clown returns to torment the adult versions of the children from the first film. Projected for a September release, this one is sure to be in high demand for horror film lovers. Steer clear of this one if you hate scary movies.
Star Wars: Episode IX
The final film of the new trilogy is expected to be released at the end of 2019, so there’s still a fair bit of waiting time for this one. J.J. Abrams returns as director, after directing “The Force Awakens.” This one is sure to add to the global phenomena that is Star Wars.
