The absolute biggest movies to look out for

Last year was a huge year for film with a number of huge blockbusters making their way onto cinema screens. Huge releases like Thor: Ragnarok, Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049 and not to mention the now showing Star Wars: The Last Jedi are all set to make it a favourable year for Hollywood.

But with this year just around the corner, movie goers are naturally looking to the future. While many franchise sequels are expected, there’s also significant anticipation for other films that are looking to make their mark on audiences.

So let’s dig in to see what some of the biggest releases will be.

Tomb Raider

The iconic video game heroine Lara Croft will make her comeback to the big screen in Mach next year. After a series of well-received films in the early 2000’s starring Angelina Jolie in the lead, the series took a long break.

Looking to no doubt capture the appeal of the latest Tomb Raider video games, this film casts a new actress; Alicia Vikander as a younger, more vulnerable Lara Croft who has everything to prove.

Ready Player One

Steven Spielberg’s latest ambitious title will also be coming out March next year. As a movie adaptation of Ernest Cline’s book, Ready Player One is set to take audiences into a vision of the future where virtual reality is an escape for everyday people from the dystopian lives they live.

With the recent trailer showcasing an action-packed story filled with internet and pop culture references, this title is sure to excite audiences.

X-men: The New Mutants

A new attempt to re-boot the X-men film franchise will come in the form of X-men: The New Mutants in April next year.

The film will follow a different direction that is not focused on the Wolverine-era, but instead on the first class of students from Professor X’s mutant school.

Avengers Infinity War

The long awaited mashup inside Marvel’s shared cinematic universe will finally arrive April next year. With Disney’s marvel films having built up several characters like Thor, Captain America and Iron Man though several standalone films there’s huge potential for this film to carry out a concept largely unprecedented in cinema.

Don’t expect many others big movies to be scheduled close to this one as the past popularity of Marvel films is set to make sure Infinity War is a runaway success.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

The next film to be featured in Disney’s series of spin-off Star Wars adventures will feature the backstory of beloved character; Han Solo.

Following the adventures of Chewbacca and himself before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, the film will explore the chaotic past of the galaxy’s greatest smuggler.

Starring Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, the young actor has a lot to live up to in order to do justice to Harrison Ford’s iconic portrayal of the role. Audiences will be eager to see how the young version of Han Solo fairs in a standalone film.
