‘The Last Song’ producer reacts to Miley Cyrus-Liam Hemsworth split

The producer of the film where Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth met and eventually fell in love has some sentiments to share about the pair’s recent breakup.

Adam Shankman introduced Cyrus and Hemsworth to each other when they worked on the 2010 romantic drama, The Last Song. The two who played lovers on-screen ended up bringing their love affair into real life. Cyrus and Hemsworth dated on and off for a decade before getting hitched on Christmas Eve last year.

Shankman produced the film based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks of the same name. The producer spoke to Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday while he attended this year’s Industry Dance Awards in Los Angeles, California.

“I’m sad, I just want them both to be happy. I mean, I produced the movie where they met. I feel a part of their relationship,” Shankman said, speaking to the entertainment news outlet. Cyrus and Hemsworth mutually decided to go their separate ways in less than a year after they tied the knot.

Shankman says he can’t help but be disappointed by the pair’s breakup “because I love them so much.” The producer also said that knowing them both on a personal level, he’s confident that their decision wasn’t without heavy consideration.

“They are both such good people but I don’t think that they would do this if they didn’t think it was the right thing to do and they’re not capricious people,” Shankman shares. He adds that he trusts their decision and just wants both of them to find happiness.
