Taylor Swift slew during the 2019 American Music Awards as she honored the past decade of her career by performing some of her greatest hits of the past ten years.
Swift performed songs from all of her older albums including the ones that were not part of the past ten years. Taylor started off her performance singing The Man, a clear nod to her ongoing beef with Scooter Braun, Scott Borchetta, and Big Machine Records.
The singer sang some of older fan favorites like Shake It Off, I Knew You Were Trouble, Love Story, and Blank Space. During her performance, people noticed that some of Swift’s songs had a different flavor on them during her performance. A theory circulating around is that this is how they will re-record her old songs in the latter of 2020.
She also performed some of her recent hits and finished off her performance with Lover. There were a lot of nods to her older album titles like the outfit Swift wore when she first came out to the stage and the piano when she sang Lover as the finale to her medley.
Swift even brought out some of her friends like Camila Cabello and Halsey to join in on the fun as they performed Shake It Off. The singer did the same thing during her Reputation Stadium Tour with Camila Cabello and Charli XCX as her openers. Charli XCX was not in attendance but that did not become an issue with Halsey stepping in to fill in the gap during the performance.
After her performance, Swift was then honored as she was awarded with the Artist of the Decade award by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carole King. The singer gave an emotional and heart-warming speech where she thanked Carole King and told her fans how grateful she was for being with her every step of the way.
She went on to say that the memories that she has had with the fans over the past decade were all that mattered to her. And that she was happy with the incredible times that they have shared together.
Most if not all people agree that Swift deserved to be honored with the award but it wasn’t the only award she took home that night. Swift broke Michael Jackson’s record as the most awarded artist in American Music Awards history with her 25th award when she edged out Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish.
Swift is also the youngest artist to be named Billboard Magazine’s Artist of the Year and the only artist who has been given that award twice.
