“Ray Donovan” star Liev Schreiber talks uproar over show’s cancellation

Ray Donovan fans have hurled flack against American premium television network Showtime after it abruptly announced canceled “Ray Donovan” last week. The move denied avid viewers a proper ending since the crime drama series’ 7th season concluded with a cliffhanger. David Hollander, the show’s showrunner, further fanned the flames of the controversy after he revealed that the creative team behind the show were blindsided by Showtime’s decision.

Now, SAG Award-winning actor Liev Schreiber — who stars as the series’ titular character — offered an update to fans about the Ray Donovan’s fate.

“It seems like your voices have been heard,” Schreiber wrote in an affirming message to fans that he posted on Instagram last Wednesday. However, the actor did not offer further information regarding the matter.

“Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your ongoing support, there will be more Ray Donovan,” he added.

Fans take Schreiber’s remarks as an encouraging indication that a final chapter might still be in the cards for Ray Donovan. Showtime has not released a statement regarding the actor’s comments.

The network announced last week that it will not be pushing for the crime drama’s 8th season. Showtime’s Co-President of Entertainment Gary Levine previously hinted about the show’s end last month at the TCA telling Deadline:

“I think Ray Donovan is nearing the end of its run. We always talked about seven or eight seasons.”

Fans have been rallying online to urge Showtime to reverse its decision with many dismayed by the last season’s cliffhanger ending.
