Nicolas Cageception: Nicolas Cage to star as himself in a meta film

Nicolas Cage to star as Nicolas Cage who plays Nicolas Cage. Did that hurt your brain? Yeah, me too.

Nicolas Cage is in talks to star as himself in a new metadrama. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Cage might be making his way back into the big screen with a bang. Portraying himself in a filmĀ The Unbearable Weight of Massive TalentĀ that will be produced by Lionā€™s Gate who beat out other production companies like Paramount and HBO and is currently in the final stages of negotiations to close out the deal.Ā

If the deal is finalized, Cage will star as actor Nicolas Cage, an actor who is desperate to get cast in a new Quentin Tarantino film. The story will also explore the strained relationship with his teen daughter. He also talks to a sarcastic and egotistical 90ā€™s version of himself who riles him for making poor decisions like accepting too much crappy 90ā€™s movies and for not being a relevant Hollywood star anymore.Ā

The plot of the film just thickens as the Nicolas Cage in the film is in financial trouble and needs to do things like appearing at a birthday party of a Mexican billionaire who is a fan of the actor and secretly wants to give him a script he is been working on, hoping that Cage would star in it.

While building rapport with the billionaire, the actor is informed by the Central Intelligence Agency or the CIA, that the Mexican billionaire is also a kingpin of the drug cartels in Mexico who has abducted the daughter of a government official running for the presidency of the country. The actor is then recruited by the American government to collect intelligence from the billionaire. With a lot on the line and lives at stake, the actor embarks on an adventure and a role of a lifetime.Ā

According to sources, the interest on the project is so high that Cage is expected to receive a massive payday rivaling his times starring in movies like National Treasure and Con Air.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is written by Ghosted writers Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten and will be under Lionsgate Films once the deal has been finalized. If this is green-lit, this meta film will probably be like the ones Jean-Claude Van Damme and John Travoltaā€™s film adaptations.

Hollywood Reporter sources also stated that the project was served to the actor, not as a parody but more of a love letter to him, and immediately became fond of the idea.
