Nick Jonas joins the 18th season of NBC’s “The Voice”

Nick Jonas will join the lineup of star-studded judges in the hit song television song competition, “The Voice”. The singer will be taking Gwen Stefani’s place who will not return for the show’s 18th season.

Jonas will be amongst returning coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson on the NBC series. Returning to host the show is Carson Daly. The Jonas Brothers singer addressed the big news in a statement to news outlet Variety:

“I’m so excited to be a part of ‘The Voice’ family. It’s such an awesome group of individuals, and I can’t wait to help these artists really build and hone in to find their unique voices.”

A fourth coach had been in and out of the show after Adam Levine left the show. Stefani then filled in for him on season 17.

Jonas is one third of the Jonas Brothers band where he performs with brothers Joe and Kevin. After breaking up, Nick and Joe pursued their own careers in music. Both of whom found success with Nick’s solo “Jealous” receiving certified triple platinum. The band reunited earlier this year with their hit single “Sucker”. The song topped Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in its debut. The band’s album “Happiness Begins” managed to make it to the number one spot of the Billboard 200.

This will mark Jonas’ return to NBC after the Jonas Brothers previously appeared on the network’s “Songland” series earlier this year.

Meredith Ahr, chief of NBC Entertainment says about the matter:
“As a member of one of the hottest pop groups, Nick’s success in navigating all aspects of the music industry is exceptional.”
