MCU fans wants Jeremy Renner OUT as Hawkeye amidst controversy

Marvel fans are calling for Jeremy Renner’s head. The huge fan base wants the Hawkeye actor to be replaced for the upcoming Disney+ show Hawkeye which is going to be set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor first appeared in the MCU in Thor as S.H.I.E.L.D. deadeye Clint Barton before grouping up with the rest of the Marvel superheroes in The Avengers.

Most fans see Hawkeye as the most underrated and under-utilized Marvel superhero among the six original Avengers. From being under Loki’s control in The Avengers to actually not being in the Avengers: Infinity War movie. The sharpshooter did make a great comeback in Endgame though, and is set to star in his own TV series on Disney+ which was green-lit by Kevin Feige,  Marvel Studios big boss and Renner himself during San Diego Comic-Con this year.

The actor has been surrounded by controversy recently though, with Renner presumably threatening to kill Sonni Pacheco, his ex-wife. Renner’s ex-wife allegedly added that the Hawkeye actor has been dealing with drug abuse as well.

Renner responded with his own statement, saying that his main focus is his daughter. He also added that these allegations were part of a custody battle between him and Pacheco for the sole custody of their daughter.

CNBC writer Daniel Richtman and YouTube personality Grace Randolph tweeted that Marvel is contemplating to either replacing Renner, significantly cutting his role or straight out removing him from the upcoming show. The authenticity of these rumors have yet to be proven and should not be taken seriously at the moment.

This is also not the first time that MCU fans cried for support to replace Renner. Activist Nyle DiMarco sought support last year in recasting Hawkeye, wanting a deaf actor to portray the sharpshooter since in the canon, Clint Barton is deaf. With Marvel having had good progress in terms of representing people of color and women in their media, Hawkeye still remains a question mark in terms of not having a person with disability play the character like in the comics.

With all this ruckus, It still remains to be seen what Marvel will do with Renner and his role in the upcoming Hawkeye series. The rumors about his presumed recasting or removal are just that, they are just rumors. People will still be in the dark as to how the studio will move forward until they have their own verdict on the matter.
