Scratchleyā€™s Restaurant began in 1989 with the reuse of The Old Stockton Ferry Terminal. Donna and Neil worked extraordinary hours, something their wonderful industry demands. They traded for 10 years in a building built with love, desire and very little money. Although they had worked in the industry for almost 2 decades, there was still so much to learn. Over the time they had various side projects ā€“ a tender won at Sheppardā€™s Cottage ā€œThe Terraceā€ (lost DA), Paymasters Cafe (a win), The Hunters Ark Nobby Beach (a loss). Throughout this time, they built a loyal clientele and effective systems, enabling them to run the bigger, more environmentally-friendly modern Scratchleyā€™s in 1999.

In 1999, they built a real restaurant with many features that they could have only dreamt of ten years previously. Their floor to ceiling glass folding doors enable their guests to truly interact with the fabulous working Newcastle Harbour.Ā They were able to refine their environmental initiative in waste management and energy usage.

They continuously refine their food around their guestsā€™ expectations. Although the menu is predominately seafood, they also cater to non-seafood lovers and all other dietary requirements. Their extensive wine list has been a labour of love with many aged wines available at very reasonable prices. They know their place in the social fabric of Newcastle and aim always to please visitors and locals alike.

In year 2016 they opened their latest edition to the western end of their famous building, Battlesticks Bar, and gave the existing restaurant a fresh new look.

Community engagement, environmental excellence and guest comfort are the cornerstones of their business. They trust that customers can enjoy the experience for another 25 years and beyond.

REVIEWS:

ā€œNew renovations are looking good, the club was busy on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon and the kitchen and serving staff worked their butts off to prepare and serve meals within a reasonable time. The meals were good size and well presented. Burgers and snitztels if you are hungry and seafood looked a treat. A very good musician playing guitar on the deck added to the atmosphere. The new bar looked great and again plenty of staff a fast friendly service. I have been here several times before over the years and this was by far my best experience. Would recommend highly.ā€ ā€“ Don Burns
