Black Hops Brewery, Australia’s 2018 AIBA Champion Small Brewery, and 2019 RQFWS Australian Champion Brewery. Black Hops started as a simple idea over a beer with 3 good mates Govs, Dan and Eddie. That lead to the first Black Hops beer, Eggnog Stout. A few years on, they have a team of 25 legends, a brewery and a taproom in Burleigh Heads and Biggera Waters and their beer in 400 plus venues and bottle-shops in QLD, VIC, NSW, & SA.

Balter Brewing Company

Balter Brewing Company thinks good beer shares a lot of qualities with a good host – they are both thoughtful, approachable and value character over currency. Above all, both help bring a extensive range of people together to get them smiling.

Their approach to making beer is built on this notion. They want everybody to experience the delight of bonding over a tasty brew, whether that’s hop driven wonders or malt-driven deliciousness. This means using the best ingredients they can get their hands on, taking advantage of the best technology they can afford, and using techniques that are geared towards taste rather than brewing speed. It also means creating a vast of range flavours that can reach a broad set of palates.

Since starting in March 2016 their beer has won a bunch of awards. Most notably they took out Best International Pale Ale at the AIBA Awards in 2017, Best Newcomer and Champion Medium Size Brewery . While it feels nice to be winning the approval of beer judges, they value the word of mouth from one friend to another more than anything else. If somebody loves what they do so much they feel it’s important enough to share with their mates and that’s the greatest accolade they could achieve. It’s why winning the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beers two years in a row is their proudest achievement.

Burleigh Brewing Company

Burleigh Brewing Company – It’s not surprising really, for Brewmaster Brennan, considering his family tree boasts brewers and bottlers in previous generations.

Fast-forward to 2006 and that ambitious baby has clocked up a lifetime of experience brewing in his country of Hawaii, won a swag of awards, and married the woman of his dreams — Peta, a Gold Coaster who, when she wasn’t busy practicing corporate law, was dreaming of starting her own incomparable business.

Fuelled by Brennan’s vast experience, Peta’s business nous and a small dose of shared insanity, Burleigh Brewing Co. was born in a commercial area in Burleigh.

Over the past decade or so, they have upgraded their taphouse to an epic purpose built one around the corner from the original, won innumerous awards for both business and beer (a testament to their shared and individual strengths), grown to a team of 50, and in their own humble, hard-working way, helped transform the Gold Coast’s brewing scene into one of the most vivid and thriving in the country.
