Dr. Jeff James is a director and founding member of South East Brisbane Anaesthesia Service. Dr James graduated from University of Queensland in 1989. He then practised medicine in numerous hospitals throughout Queensland, before beginning training in the speciality of Anaesthesia. He completed his training in 2000 and was admitted as a fellow to the College of Anaesthetists. He worked for several years as a staff specialist in Queensland Health. He began full time private practice in 2003, where with Dr Ian Cooper founded South East Brisbane Anaesthesia Service. He has been on the Medical Advisory Committee at Sunnybank Private Hospital for many years. He is also the chair of the Perioperative Committee at the same hospital. His main areas of practice are Opthalmic surgery, Faciomaxillary surgery, and Bariatric surgery. He regularly does volunteer work in Cambodia and Myanmar. He is a mad golfer, musician, and poker player.

Dr Scott Buntain is a full time Specialist Anaesthetist with Narcosia Anaesthesia. Scott is an Old boy of the Toowoomba Grammar School (1982-1983) and Brisbane Boys’ College (1984-1986).
Dr Buntain’s undergraduate medical degree (MBBS) was conferred by the University of Queensland in 1992. He graduated with First Class Honours and was awarded the Charles Mitford Lilley Memorial Prize for Surgery.
Dr Buntain commenced training in Anaesthesia in 1996. This training incorporated posts at various Queensland hospitals, with three full years being spent at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) in Brisbane. Dr Buntain was awarded FANZCA in 2001 and accepted the position of Staff Specialist at the PAH in 2002. Dr Buntain moved into private practice with Narcosia Anaesthesia toward the end of 2002, but remained a Visiting Medical Officer at the PAH until 2009.
Dr Buntain’s main areas of practice encompass the provision of anaesthetic services for Plastic Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology and Oncology, General Surgery, Gastroenterology and Ophthalmology. He has a broad general practice at all of the major Brisbane private hospitals, and has a particular interest in the teaching of medical and allied health staff. He is an active participant of the ANZCA Maintenance of Professional Standards program and is a member of a number of ANZCA special interest groups.

Northside Anaesthesia
Dr. James Johnson is a consultant Anaesthetist who joined Northside Anaesthesia in early 2017. James grew up in rural Queensland and graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 2003. He worked in a variety of Queensland Hospitals as a junior doctor in a range of specialty areas including cardiac and respiratory medicine, intensive care, surgery and emergency medicine.
James undertook his training in Anaesthesia in Brisbane and became a fellow of the Australia New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2013. During this time he spent the majority of his time at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospitals establishing the experience that comes with working in a major tertiary trauma centre and complex obstetric hospital. James has further developed an interest in regional anaesthesia (nerve blocks) and point of care ultrasound skills. In 2013 he left Australia for a year to undertake additional training in Toronto Canada working with world leading clinicians and researchers at the Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Hospital and the Women’s College Hospitals. During this time he developed and authored a number of research publications and clinical trials related to nerve blocks and their benefits in improving post operative analgesia.
On returning to Australia in late 2014 James commenced working part-time at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospitals where he has continued to make a significant contribution to expanding regional and ultrasound anaesthesia skills, partnering to undertake further research studies and regularly teaching at local and national workshops. James currently works part of the week in private anaesthesia practice where he maintains a broad area of interests including Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Gastroenterology, Obstetric and Gynaecology.
