You read that right, because what would you look for in a film? Funnyman Will Ferrell will be starring in “The Legend of Cocaine Island.” It will be a scripted remake of Netflix’s well-known documentary of the same title.
Peter Steinfeld is attached to pen the movie’s script with Ferrel to produce. Jessica Elbaum of Gloria Sanchez Productions and David Permut of Permut Presentations are also attached to back the film. Executive producers include Theo Love who directed the original documentary alongside Bryan Storkel.
Shortly after the original documentary debuted at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival, Netflix acquired the piece. It chronicles the adventures of a man who finds out about the legend of $2 million worth of cocaine buried deep in the Caribbean. He comes up with a plan to retrieve the massive amount of cash and recruits a talented group of misfits.
This marks Ferrell’s latest team up with the streaming giant. It was previously announced that the actor had wrapped up the Netflix comedy “Eurovision” with director David Dobkin. Based on the global music contest, it also stars Rachel McAdams. The trio had previously worked on comedy smash hit “Wedding Crashers.” In the film, Dobkin directs McAdams who also stars in the film that features a cameo from Ferrell.
Ferrell’s other project with Netflix is the movie adaptation of popular web series “Between Two Ferns.” It stars him alongside the parody show’s host, Zach Galifianakis.
One of his latest projects is the Fox Searchlight film “Downhill” set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next year.
