Despite her top-billing role in the 2019 blockbuster Hustlers, actress Constance Wu firmly decided against watching the film.
Wu appeared on the television talk show Live with Kelly and Ryan on Tuesday. Speaking to hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, the actress revealed that she opted not to see Hustlers since it debuted on theatres last year.
āI still havenāt seen it,ā she says about the movie also starring Jennifer Lopez, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, and Julia Stiles. The 37-year-old then admitted, āThe last movie I saw of mine was Crazy Rich Asians.ā
So why hasnāt the lead actress of Hustlers viewed the movie? Wu explained that she avoids watching her self on the screen to avoid self-criticism. āIt was watching that movie, after that experience, that I stopped watching anything,ā the actress said.
Wu went on to reveal that itās not just Hustlers that sheās been avoiding.Ā āI didnāt watch my talk show appearances or Fresh Off the Boat or Hustlers,ā the star told Ripa and Seacrest.
āJust because I thought, you know, I want to focus on the present and not be self-critical and think too much, dwell too much on the past.ā
Itās not unusual for actors to avoid seeing themselves on the small or big screen. Academy Award nominee Adam Driver is adamant to keep himself away from his own projects. Even industry veterans including Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon, and Tom Hanks have spoken about refusing to watch their own movies at some point in their careers.
