Timothée Chalamet to play Bob Dylan in James Mangold biopic

Timothée Chalamet might be taking on the role of folk music icon Bob Dylan in a film to be helmed by James Mangold. It will be backed by Searchlight Pictures.

The Ford v Ferrari filmmaker will direct Chalamet posing as a young Dylan at the time when he was set to become a prolific figure in music. The time period sees the musician trading in his acoustic guitar for an electric one to embrace rock ‘n’ roll much to the contest of fans and music lovers. Dylan is reportedly actively involved in the film as works with Searchlight and Mangold. Word on the rumor mill is that the film’s working title is “Going Electric”.

Chalamet is currently in talks for the film after receiving rave reviews for his performances in Little Women. Hailed as this generation’s greatest talents in the film industry, the young actor will return to his theatre roots on the London stage in 4,000 Miles. He will be acting opposite Eileen Atkins at the Old Vic theatre. The Pulitzer-nominated stage play will run from April 16 to May 23.

If negotiations reach an agreement, his next project will be Going Electric. His most recent project is the feature adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune directed by Denis Villenueve. The seminal sci-fi flick will also feature Jason Momoa and will make a debut in December 2020.

No word as of yet whether Chalamet will actually sing in the film. But Deadline reports that he is familiarizing himself with the acoustic and electric guitar. A similar move made by Rami Malek who took piano lessons in preparation for his Oscar-winning role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
