Tips for marketing your mobile app like a Pro in 2018

Marketing of your mobile app is not something that you plan on developing and launching it. To make your mobile app successful in the present scenario, you need to take marketing very seriously from the time you have the app idea in mind.

Thus, to get the returns for all the time, energy, and money you spend on building the app, mobile app developers need to plan for the pre-launch marketing campaigns as well as the campaigns you plan to run during the launch and post-launch.

Your app may be very good, but you need to expand its reach so that all know it and they can explore it. The only way to gain the interest is through effective marketing.

Here we share some practical marketing tips that will give you continuous growth and make your app a success in 2018.

Tip #1: you can use other apps to make your app discoverable

Other apps such as Product Hunt in combination with Twitter may be used for marketing. For this, you need to market their products and on Product Hunt and then tweet them through Twitter. This allows you to get your app on their platform and gain traction of people discovering new apps.

Tip #2: you need to use your social media skills

You can use social media for your benefit by including video testimonials, call to action from influencers (such as mascots, coaches, famous alumni, or fans) to share why they like and would recommend your app.

As word of mouth travels like wildfire, you can use YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram to promote your app and make the campaign new age, stylish, and edgy. Your social media content can be made attractive for users by adding audio, videos, and live chats. Also, add fun parts such as GIFs and motion pictures to keep the users engaged.

After posting don’t forget to pin your social media posts routinely, thereby promoting your app and increasing its visibility amongst the followers.

Tip #3: display your app prominently on your website

Along with other content, your website is a great place to promote your mobile app. Your website may be the digital home for your core fan base, receiving a huge part of the traffic for your programs.

You can add a banner advertisement or a press release to drive these fans to your new one-click go-to mobile app for all latest updates instead of logging on to the website from computer or mobile.

You can also place the information about your mobile app in particular “Fan Zone” section of your website which mostly has all social media information.

Tip #4: you should leverage guest blogging

The main purpose of marketing is to gain more exposure and audience, who will then download your app and become users. For this, you need to work very diligently and patiently. One way of doing this is by leveraging the visitors to other websites by creating content for them that directs them to your website and app.

This opportunity is offered through guest blogging where you can post content on an extensive variety of blogs and technology publications, relevant to your niche, and reach more people. However, avoid being overly promotional in your guest blog posts and provide the readers with quality content to learn from so that they stay hooked. While including your bio, include the link to your app and website, if possible.

Tip #5: collect all needed information about your target users

If you want your mobile app to be successful, you need to be thorough with all information about your target users. This includes geographical location, age, gender, and preferences. For example, to market a spa app, you can target malls, families, and middle-aged women, while for marketing a baby app; you need to target young mothers and fathers in your area.

Tip #6: hold contests and offer freebies

Let’s face it. We all love free stuff, don’t we? So, you can consider holding contests related to your app and its functionality to attract more downloads and offer handouts to the winners promoting your app. These handouts can include a list of endless products that can be easily made such as t-shirts, caps, headgear, bands, etc.

For example, if it’s a sports products app, you can hold a contest and give away sports bands to all those who participate in it. This may involve initial small investment but can attract enough participants to increase downloads.

Tip #7: include five star rated influencer reviews and third-party feedback

People mostly check the reviews of the app before downloading the app. Ensure the complete and orderly functioning of your app features and make it bug-free, easy, and fast to get positive reviews.

Be sure to ask for feedback and reviews from all happy users. You can contact bloggers in your niche, members of the media, and influencers in your industry and ask them to try and review your product.

You can also use third-party feedback, i.e., feedback from another similar app developer and use their platform and similar apps to gain customers by using cross-promotion to market each other’s apps. Of course, you should be careful to check the reputation of the third party to get proper genuine feedback.

Tip #8: optimise your app for the App Store

App store optimisation (ASO) is another important step that enhances the visibility of your app on the app store. For this, you need to use the right keywords while writing the app description and use other ASO techniques.

To wrap up

Mobile app developers need to brainstorm your marketing strategy to be able to do effective marketing as getting more people to download your mobile app is not a cake walk. Your perseverance pays over time if you keep moving forward. Hope that using the above tips you can market your mobile app like a pro in 2018 and beyond.

UAE military meetings in Canberra raise human rights criticism

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), a nation that has been accused of committing war crime in a conflict with nearby Yemen, has met with officials in Canberra to discuss purchasing more of Australia’s military equipment.

Foreign Minister for the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, made a trip to Parliament House to have discussions regarding new arms deals with Julie Bishop, his Australian counterpart. The meetings also included Christopher Pyne, Australia’s Defence Industry Minister.

It is said that the UAE’s President Guard has shown interest in buying the HSSV (high speed support vessel) from Australian shipbuilding company Austal. The President Guard unit is captained by a former Australian Major, Mike Hindmarsh, who is said to report directly to the UAE’s crown prince.

Minister Pyne said that it was a great meeting to discuss military trades and that Australia has a “positive and growing relationship” with the controversial Arab state. He said the discussions focused around Aspen Medical and Austal.

Mr Pyne met with the Crown Prince of the UAW last year during the IDEX (International Defence Exhibition) conference in Abu Dhabi. There they discussed possible military deals for warships and ammunition.

Despite the smiles in Canberra, Diana Sayed (Amnesty International Crisis Campaigner) has said seeing the Australian government developing defence contracts with the UAE was “seriously alarming”.

She said that the UAE had an outrageous record for human rights abuses as part of a Saudi-led alliance that was oppressing civilians in Yemen.

The Coalition Government has insisted that all of its applications for exporting defence goods are valued on a case-by-case basis. It was said that this evaluation took human rights into consideration. Earlier in the year, the government announced its military export plans which seek to make Australia one of the top 10 nations for military sales in the world within the next 10 years.

Getting value for money for your salvaged car

The salvage car industry has won a lot of popularity over the years. You are probably aware of the rise in automotive prices in recent times and you often encounter a lot of issues in getting a good deal while buying a car, yet many of you are not aware of what exactly is a salvaged car. You do not understand the real value that an auto salvage industry could be offering.

Learn more about the ‘auto salvage industry’

Right from the initial days of automobiles, you have witnessed how automotive recycling has developed successfully into a tech-driven and an advanced industry. You must understand the fact that the so-called auto salvage industry is nothing but the actual automotive recycling industry. The main emphasis of everyone involved in this industry is repurposing, reusing, and retaining the worth of everything automotive, and determining a new existence for the different components of the car or the car itself.

The popular auto salvage industry seems to be very much a thriving business. Statistics reveal that overall automotive recycling actually represents more than $32 billion in terms of sales every year. Moreover, the industry is known to have more than 140,000 employees in the United States alone. So, it is quite natural for many of you to be interested in starting this business of buying and selling salvaged cars.

The auto salvage industry not only plays a pivotal role in your automotive supply chain, they also act as responsible automotive recyclers implementing a totally eco-friendly process to dismantle, recycle or re-purpose vehicles. Selling and purchasing certified pre-owned cars is cost efficient, it effectively preserves and conserves natural resources and meaningfully results in the reduction of pollution.

Selling it for scrap

You could make some money by selling a salvaged car to the scrapyard. This would be requiring a lot of preparation and some amount of paperwork. Once you are done with all the paperwork and other formalities, it looks as simple as contacting a number of scrap metal dealers and selling the salvaged car to the one that offers the best deal. You need to produce relevant papers associated with the vehicle’s title and the registration details. You must have a clear knowledge of what parts are damaged in the car and also, determine the actual worth of the salvaged car from NADA or KBB.

Selling it yourself

Selling it privately could be really more challenging as compared to selling it to the junkyard. However, if you come across a unique vehicle collector, it could prove to be an easy selling process. Remember it is actually about identifying the right buyer since not everybody would be interested in buying a salvaged car.

Some individuals would actually be looking for a cheap vehicle for just a few months. You may consider trying your luck via a classified advertisement online or maybe some other popular medium. You may, in all probability, end up getting a much better and profitable deal as compared to selling your vehicle to a typical junkyard.

Selling a salvaged vehicle is less worrisome than buying it. But it is always a wise idea to avoid any fines so you must get in touch with the local Motor Vehicles Department. You must verify the precise salvage auto requirements that are needed in your particular state.

Ownership must be firmly established

You must know that salvage yards simply cannot buy the car from anyone apart from the car’s owner. You must consider establishing ownership before handling these businesses.

In order to get the best prices, you must evaluate the salvaged car’s actual worth after examining the damages to the concerned vehicle and depending on the actual condition of the car; you would get the perfect prices. Do your homework well. Know about the actual damages and be prepared to answer a whole lot of questions. It is always best to contact scrapyards and try to compare their prices online.

How environmentally friendly is your car?

When you’re driving often for work, it can be easy to forget the impact you have on the environment. But with the right guidance and attitude, you can make a world of difference and have an environmentally friendly journey.

Once you take stock of your environmental footprint, you can implement practical ways to become an environmentally friendly driver.

Considering your environmental footprint while driving

Before even getting on the road, cars consume a lot of energy. The impact of production alone – using materials like steel, rubber, paints and plastics – leaves a massive environmental footprint, as does the disposal of cars at the end of their lives.

However, the biggest environmental impact of driving comes from fuel consumption; in most cases the emissions of air pollution and greenhouse gases. Car pollution is one of the major causes of global warming. This pollution affects the air, soil and water across the world, which in turn depletes the ozone layer.

For many of us, this is all common knowledge by now. Green technology has become a viable option in response to this, transforming the way we build homes to how we conduct power. However, at times it can hard to take a step back and consider our own impact – particularly if you’re constantly travelling for work. So the question is, how can you make sure you’re driving in an environmentally responsible manner?

5 tips for becoming an environmentally friendly driver

Ready to become a lean, green, driving machine? Here are five simple ways to get started.

Use a fuel-efficient car

Do you really need that giant petrol guzzler? The most fuel-efficient cars are lightweight, with small-capacity petrol engines. Diesel engines are usually too large for small cars, while electric cars (though the most environmentally friendly), can be too pricey to consider.

To find the fuel-efficient car of your dreams, use car comparison sites, talk to your local dealers, or chat with friends and family who are driving environmentally friendly vehicles to gain insights.

Lighten the load

The more weight your car carries, the more fuel it uses. The more fuel you use, the more damage you’re doing to the environment. It’s a simple equation, but a good one to keep in mind if you’re using your car as a travelling storage facility. So try cut down on the items you’re driving with, only transporting what’s absolutely necessary.

Maintain your car

Just like humans, cars run better when they’re healthy. Keeping your car maintained not only decreases your environmental impact, it also saves you money. In order to make sure your vehicle runs efficiently, make sure you:

  • Set the tyres to the required inflation
  • Keep the engine tuned
  • Have the the fuel filter replaces when needed
  • Check the condition of the engine filter
  • Use narrower tyres

For the best service, take your car to a professional. They can pick up on things you missed, and ensure your car is as fuel-efficient as possible.

Slow down

Want to save fuel? Then keep your foot off the accelerator. At 110 km/h, your car is using up to 25 per cent more fuel than it would at 90 km/h. If you want to driver faster on the highway – and also save fuel – use cruise control if your car is equipped with this feature.

Be a green cleaner

Even when your car is parked, it can still have a negative impact on the environment – especially if you’re using harmful chemicals to clean it.

Keep it green by using conservative amounts of water to wash the exterior. If you need to use chemicals, combine dishwashing liquid or laundry detergent with warm water, using a sponge to do the dirty work.

For the interior, use homemade solutions to wipe down surfaces and freshen upholstery. Use concoctions of oil and lemon juice for dashboards, vinegar for windows, and baking soda and essential oils for natural air fresheners.

You’re in the driver’s seat

Above all, make sure you’re safe on the road! That means driving to suit the conditions of the road, taking breaks during long trips and fixing any problems that would affect the condition of your car. Combine this with the some simple eco-friendly driving techniques, and you’ll be on your way to reducing your vehicles carbon footprint.

Folau does it again

Israel Folau has dispelled any hopes that he might reign himself in on social media by sharing a fire and brimstone speech by Evangelical pastor David Wilkerson, which includes a segment condemning tolerance for same sex marriage.

This follows on from an Instagram comment from the Wallabies star stating his belief that gay people will burn in Hell for their sins. In the wake of that controversy Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle met with Folau to try and convince him to tone down his religious commentary on social media.

The major sponsor of the Wallabies, QANTAS, will not be happy at the latest developments. It is firmly committed to diversity and to supporting people of all race, gender and sexuality. Officially Rugby Australia is as well – but how long will that perception last if Folau again gets off without even a slap on the wrist?

Folau comes off contract at the end of this year, and speculation is rife that he is simply courting controversy in order to drive home his value to RA and the NSW rugby union. If this is true, he is playing a very dangerous game. If it comes to a choice between their star player and their long term key sponsor, RA will pick QANTAS every time.

The Wallabies fullback has made no secret of his beliefs, and tweeted last year in support of the “No” campaign in the same sex marriage plebiscite. He makes sure that his messages condemning SSM and homosexuality in general are never aimed at any specific person, and also always mentions how much he loves everyone (except gay people apparently).

Folau also publically stated that his faith is the most important thing in his life, over his career, money and even his family and friends. He also offered to leave Australian rugby if his views are too unwelcome, putting the ball firmly in RA’s court. What happens over the next few months will be interesting.

High Court rules Labor Senator Katy Gallagher ineligible

Labor’s Katy Gallagher has officially been ruled ineligible to sit in parliament by the High Court because she did not renounce her UK citizenship before the 2016 election cut-off. This follows the announcement of her hearing occurring the day after the federal budget was revealed.

The findings of the High Court have since prompted another 3 Labor MP’s and Rebekha Sharkie from the Centre Alliance to resign.

Ms Gallagher had turned herself in to the High Court after the Coalition raised questions about her eligibility to sit in Parliament despite her sticking to the story that she did everything in her power to renounce her British citizenship but was thwarted by cumbersome British bureaucracy.

The UK Home Office failed to register the renunciation of her citizenship until a month following the 2016 election. This prompted her defenders to call the inquiry unfair as it was out of her control and a failure of the UK Home Office.

Despite the decision, Ms Gallagher has stated that she respects the High Court decision and made an apology to her constituents. She said that it was “deeply disappointing” that her Senate career had to end like this and that she felt she had “more to contribute” as a public representative.

She said that she will speak with Labor party members on how she can continue to contribute “over the months ahead”.

Ms Gallagher’s lawyers made the case that she couldn’t be held responsible for the delay of the UK Home Office and should have been exempted from section 44(i) of the constitution. However, the High Court made a unanimous judgement in declaring Ms Gallagher ineligible for Federal Parliament.

In the judgement the High Court stated that the British law did not prevent Ms Gallagher from renouncing her dual citizenship and that she could not lay the blame on the red tape failures of UK authorities.

The High Court ordered that a recount should take place in order to fill Ms Gallagher’s vacant seat. David Smith, a union official, is the next on the ticket for the Labor seat.

Mr Smith stated that if he took the seat he would not use it to create a vacancy for Ms Gallagher to return to senate duty, affirming that the High Court’s decision shouldn’t be undermined.

Shortly after the High Court decision, Labor Senator Penny Wong took the chance to praise Ms Gallagher, stating that she was “too good to lose”. Labor leader Bill Shorten expressed similar sentiments saying that he was “deeply disappointed” by the High Court’s decision.

Uma Thurman has forgiven Quentin Tarantino after Kill Bill controversy

When Quentin Tarantino asked Uma Thurman to do a dangerous stunt on the set of Kill Bill she was seriously injured. But now, she has forgiven him saying that she would work with him again.

Uma Thurman suffered permanent neck and knee injuries during filming on the set of Kill Bill in 2003 in a car accident. However, she has now said that she would be willing to work with Quentin Tarantino again.

The 48-year-old Thurman said that she has “always had a good relationship” with Tarantino, and that this continued following the car crash. Tarantino is said to have convinced Thurman to get behind the wheel of a blue convertible for a scene in Kill Bill despite the actress expressing her concerns of doing so.

At the time, Uma Thurman thought that she believed the stunt was dangerous, something that ultimately turned out to be true. But she said that she didn’t hold it against him because “when you’ve known someone as long as I’ve known him…you can’t reduce that type of history and legacy.”

She continued to say that “if he (Quentin Tarantino) wrote a great part” that “it would be something else” to work with him again.

Uma Thurman released footage of the infamous Kill Bill car crash on her Instagram and Tarantino says that he immediately felt remorseful about the whole thing. He even went as far as to say that it was “one of the biggest regrets” of his life.

Tarantino admitted that the event changed the relationship between the two saying that it wasn’t to the point of not talking, but it was clear that trust between the two had been broken.

Thurman said that she was angry about how the incident was handled but would never let something like that ruin such a long relationship.

Uma Thurman is currently promoting her new film Con Is On.

6 spicy food dishes from across the globe that raise the scales

La connoisseur! To what extent can the taste, smell and sight of spicy food drive us crazy? Food aficionados that pledge life-long allegiance to exotic food from across the globe can do really weird things. For example, they can trade William Shakespeare’s wisdom from the act one, scene one of the Twelfth Night of “If music be the food of love, play on” for George Bernard Shaw’s “there is no sincerer love than the love of food.”

Miracles happen when food lovers smell the aroma of signature dishes of food travel destinations located a thousand miles away and decide to quit their job if need be, pack their bags and go globetrotting in the quest to flag eateries with their taste buds.

That brings us to the all-important question of the top locations across the world that offers the gastronomic pleasures of a lifetime. Take this whirlwind tour to know, imagine and taste the most colourful food from different places across the world and transform this world into a giant food bowl!

1) Ema Datshi, the national food of Bhutan that uses chillies as vegetables

Away from the din and bustle of life on the fast track, the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan is the perfect place to script the great escapade into snow-capped mountains, frozen winters and the piquant taste of Ema Datshi.

The national dish of Bhutan, Ema Datshi derives its nomenclature from the two root words in the local Dzongkha language: “ema” meaning chillies and “datshi” meaning cheese. Call it an oxymoron but this signature dish of Bhutan offers a standardised focus and variety in the same breath.

This dish fixates on a generous use of chillies as vegetables and allows spicy food lovers to explore a wide variety of chillies as substitutes. Thus one may choose from chilli pepper, red chillies, green chillies and white chillies! A foodie that holds the acrid taste of chillies as God’s gift to mankind is guaranteed to go gaga on the typically spicy taste.

2) Dan Dan noodles in Sichuan Province, China: fiery red and steaming hot

East is red and red is east. Welcome to China. As opposed to the popular belief that China offers a staple basket of uniform flavours across regions in the country, it offers incredible local cuisine varieties.

Provinces like Sichuan, for example, offer flavours that are steaming, fiery and red hot. The province hosts the monolith of The Leshan Giant Buddha and attracts tourists from across the world. There is yet another reason to travel to Sichuan. The famous Sichuan cuisine traditionally makes generous use of chillies and pepper.

Dan Dan noodles; one of the signature dishes of the Sichuan Chinese cuisine derives its name from the poles that street vendors once used to sell the food in the local market. They would hang the noodles from one end of the pole and the sauce from the other end. Gradually the locals came to call the noodles by the name Dan Dan.

While Dan Dan noodles is originally, so to speak, a street food in Sichuan, the fiery hot taste emanating from the steamed, meat-filled dumplings and sauce has taken it places across the world. The best way to savour it though is to visit Sichuan, soak in the local Chinese culture, family life and food etiquette and share a dinner table with friends and family in the freezing cold winter of the area.

3) Harissa: the hot favourite in the freezing winters of Kashmir in India

While people travel to India to take in the visual treats of the Himalayas, ancient temples, and historical sites, the food traveller eyes a different dimension: the country’s popular food delicacies.

Not to mention there are top Indian delicacies to savour across Indian states like the Galauti Kebabs in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, the Chungudi Aloo Tarakari in Odisha and Pork Vindaloo in Goa, but connoisseurs of chilli shall admit that the sheer piquant taste of the Harissa makes Kashmir an apt halt to a food adventure trip to India.

In the freezing winters of Kashmir in India, people seek asylum in one of the finest local cuisines; Harissa. The onset of the winter with a harsh forty-day period of sub-zero temperature called the “Chillai Kalan” in the region begs for sizzling hot and spicy food. Harissa, the local spicy mutton dish of Kashmir is a befitting reply to the cold.

Mutton marinated overnight and cooked, de-boned and simmered on heat with a spice mixture of cloves, black and green cardamom, fennel seeds, garlic cloves and dried ginger powder, sends the mercury levels inside the body of the foodie soaring high enough to brave the onslaught.

To guess the intensity of the acrid taste of Harissa, catch this statement: Harissa is had by the locals as a breakfast dish and the fiery taste and high-calorie content keeps the body warm throughout the entire day. When on a trip to Kashmir in winter, wake up early in the morning and head straight to the nearest Harissa-Gaer shop to avoid early morning rush. Bite into the steaming hot Harissa.

4) Jerk chicken and Red Stripe beer: pack a punch in Jamaica

No, we are not talking of the legendary Jamaican Punch. This is serious stuff and meant for the brave. Food lovers that feel the watering at the mouth at the mere mention of the acrid and hot taste of chicken cooked in spicy sauce marinades, the local speciality scotch bonnet chillies, garlic cloves and coarsely ground pepper should make a trip to Jamaica.

The fiercely piquant taste of chicken grilled over a medium-hot fire causes the red-hot energy of a hundred chillies to explode in the mouth, scaling the heat level inside the body and around by few times. Spicy food lovers that are willing enough to take inspiration from the Jamaican locals find the taste of the Jamaican Jerk Chicken to be unparalleled in the category of spiced hot chicken dishes.

People that do not want to risk the heat levels raised by the scotch bonnet chillies, garlic cloves, and coarsely ground pepper can seek refuge in the addition of coconut milk and potatoes. Many a time when tears roll down the cheeks, try cooling off with a bottle of the Red Stripe beer in between chewing the chicken. There are ample food stalls on the streets of Jamaica that offer authentic Jamaican Jerk Chicken.

5) Pozole: raise the heat with spicy food in red hot Mexico

Mexico celebrates food like no other nation. Mexican cuisine stands out in the world order for its rich, spicy and acrid tastes and benevolent use of a vast variety of homegrown chillies like the Jalapeno, Poblano, Serrano, Habanero, and Ancho.

Two dishes of the incredible local cuisine of Mexico stand out for their fiery red hot tastes: Pozole and Tacos. Pozole, the traditional soup of Mexico that is prepared with a base of hominy cooked in broth is a hit with the tourists at the street food stalls and eateries in Mexico and has now taken off to faraway places, owing to its steaming hot taste.

Hominy, a form of processed and dried maize forms the base of Pozole. The broth is a soupy paste of bones, meat, fish, and vegetables that have been simmered to give a rich creamy taste to dishes like soups, gravies, and sauces in Mexican cuisine. The broth that is typically used in the preparation of dishes like Pozole consists of pork or beef or chicken.

The hot taste attributes itself to the generous use of Ancho chillies, diced green chillies and black pepper in formidable quantities. The Casa Licha Pozole, La Casa De Tono, and El Pozole de Moctezuma are some of the best-known restaurants in Mexico City that serve the best varieties of the spicy food.

6) Doro Wat, the hottest taste from the cradle of human civilisation: Ethiopia

Ethiopia, the cradle of human civilisation has a lot to offer to mankind in terms of pre-human history and archaeology. Yet, the best part of Ethiopia is perhaps reserved for spicy food lovers that like the aroma of African spice mixes and savour the hot taste of chillies, garlic and spice mixes bursting in the mouth, raising the heat several notches in the process.

Doro Wat is the national dish of Ethiopia and probably the most famous of all African dishes known to the global community of spicy food lovers. Usually made of beef or chicken and topped off with boiled eggs, the dish relies heavily in its use of traditional Ethiopian spice mixes like the Berbere and Mitmita.

The key to a great red-hot taste of the Doro Wat is the quality of the Berbere that goes into it. While there are different versions of Berbere, all of those are combinations of whole spices and spices that are roasted and ground. Mitmita, the other top spice mix used for seasoning chicken in Ethiopian cuisine contains piri piri, cardamom, cloves, cumin, cinnamon and salt that are ground together to serve an orange-red colour that symbolizes the explosion of heat that in unleashes when used in Ethiopian cuisine dishes like the Doro Wat.

Cultures and communities across the world can be seen, heard of, visited and experienced. The holistic meaning of experiencing cultures and communities is perhaps best embodied in savouring the tastes of the incredible local cuisines that they offer.

While travellers perceive of places across the world as mere points on the global map, spicy food buffs look at them as food travel destinations, meaning that they look at the world as one giant food bowl. With so much to eat, drink and taste in a lifetime, can a true foodie stay calm? Don’t keep calm and keep eating as there is no other day.

Velma Trayham reveals how she is rebuilding female entrepreneurship

In recent decades the doors to the business world have slowly opened up to more and more women who can successfully compete in a historically male dominated field. Now, more women than ever before are becoming entrepreneurs and establishing their own brands.

Despite these promising advances, there is still some latent hesitation from cautionary women who lack the high profile role models that their male counterparts have. Velma Trayham, CEO of marketing firm ThinkZilla, recognises this issue and is actively doing something about it via her Millionaire Mastermind Gathering for women.

See what she had to say when asked about her efforts to empower female entrepreneurs:

The Millionaire Mastermind Gathering (MMG) was born out of a desire to change perceptions about female entrepreneurship by providing mentorship and role models for women to follow.

Do you feel that an issue like entrenched sexism is to blame for taking the limelight away from successful female entrepreneurs or is there another culprit?

I do not feel like that. I feel that many women have taken the back seats intentionally or simply because they have a traditional way of thinking.

I believe there is proper timing for everything. As a top marketing and business expert I’ve contributed to building hundreds of successful brands  across the world. I believe now it is the time to come front and center, encouraging other women to embrace their success.

Spiritual faith has been mentioned as a part of MMG. To what extent has incorporating your faith helped the group in its goals?

Because faith is something we hope for but we do not see, by my experience all my success started with first hoping then the action to reach the thing we hope for comes next.

Faith plays a big part, because one must have faith that they can achieve their goals…faith without works is dead.

MMG acknowledges that many entrepreneurs give up when meeting resistance because they lack expertise and willpower. What are some ways in which you prepare entrepreneurs for these early challenges?

I was once a failure, in fact I failed many times in my early entrepreneur years, but I never gave up. Many people are conditioned to think that failure is horrible and that if they fail there is no more hope for them. The reality is failure is great, because from every failure you learn a great lesson.

One of the biggest ways I prepare entrepreneurs for these challenges is that they can simply learn from my past failures. I’m very successful and accomplished and not just another guru selling them a pipe dream.

I’ve been there and done it. Came from nothing to now being one of the top marketing firms in the US. I also pray with them and encourage them to pray.

Speaking to women who might attended the Gathering or pursue similar entrepreneurial support, what key advice would you give them?

To do their research on the person giving advice. Take action, do not allow fear, doubt or disbelief to keep them stuck. Invest in yourself and keep a positive mindset.

MMG talks about ‘rebuilding entrepreneurship’, what paradigms of entrepreneurship do you believe need to change to enable more women to succeed?

The main thing is changing the way that we think. Women need other successful women’s leadership and mentorship. I mean…everyone would like to have a seat with Oprah Winfrey or Michelle Obama but can that happen or will it happen? That’s a great question.

Well until it happens I am passionate about helping as many people as I can become successful entrepreneurs. You don’t know what you don’t know, and what they don’t know is what’s hurting the most.  I mean take a look at all the reality shows that are full of garbage…what do we expect ?

Can you elaborate on what you call the “Single Overriding Objective” and how it helps women see their business on a larger scale?

The SOCO (Single Overriding Communication Objective) is created to describe a specific message. Many Entrepreneurs have no clue what problem their business is solving and can’t sum it up in 60 seconds are less. In order to do business on a larger scale, bid for government contracts and become certified as small business owners this is something very important that all entrepreneurs must know.

What would you say has been the biggest challenge in operating MMG so far?

I think the biggest challenge in the beginning was finding a great venue that would not charge an arm and a leg but thanks to Kela Taylor, Owner of The Marke Venue in Atlanta, Georgia sponsored her beautiful facility to aid in helping the women that come through The Mastermind Gathering.

What does the future hold for MMG and/or what would you like to see the group become in another 6 months?

I’m launching a Millionaire Mastermind business bootcamp; READY, SET, GO that provides hands on workshops for entrepreneurs at all stages. Those that need to get ready to start, their business, those that need to get set-up with branding and those that are ready to expand their market.

These reduced cost boot camps is sure to help thousands of people walk into their purpose. In another 6 months I see different chapters being birthed, and women coming from near and far to receive the resources. The Mastermind Bootcamp is presented by my ThinkZILLA Consulting Group team!

Suburban rugby remains strong in Sydney

In recent years the Waratahs have not been a successful team. Even in 2018, although they have beaten all three other Australian teams, wins against overseas opposition have been rare. This has been reflected in the (low) numbers of people who go to watch at Allianz Stadium. But there is still an appetite for suburban rugby, including the Waratahs taking games around Sydney.

Last year’s Shute Shield grand final between North Sydney and Warringah at North Sydney Oval drew over 16,000 spectators. Earlier in the year both games between beaches rivals Manly and Warringah (three including a semi-final clash) drew over 10,000. 10,000 more watched Manly play reigning premiers Norths at Manly Oval. These were the top drawing games, but all 5 sold out there venue.

Last weekend the Waratahs, who had a potential scheduling clash with the A-League for Allianz, decided to capitalise on the market for suburban rugby in Sydney by taking a game to Brookvale Oval. It was a huge success. The stadium sold out of seats an hour before kick-off, and even general admission (the hill) was packed.

The crowd were into a very tight contest, with Origin style chants of “NEW SOUTH WALES” breaking out when the “home” team were on attack. Even though the Waratahs eventually lost, the crowd showed that suburban rugby crowds can tolerate not getting the result as long as the effort is there and the game is entertaining.

Allianz will be out of action next year, and there is a sense that last weekend was a test to see whether taking games to the suburbs would be successful – an idea that has been mooted for a long time. If so, the Brookie game passed with flying colours. The SCG was also tried against the Reds, but even though it was a classic NSW-QLD derby the atmosphere was poor, and fewer people went.

Expect to see a lot more suburban rugby games played by the Waratahs next year.
