5 things you should know about SEO for e-commerce websites

Optimizing an e-commerce website is far from easy. The main problem for the majority of those who engage in such a task is the size of the website. It is especially difficult if the website you are working on has been around for quite some time without being optimized at all. This can create multiple issues with the information architecture, duplicate content, 404 errors and bad URLs.

These issues can all be resolved, and once the website starts having a SEO friendly structure, you should start considering the content you will use for the promotion of the shop. But first comes first.

Taking care of the URLs

  • The first thing to do here is to make your preferred domain canonical. If the website is reachable both through “http://www.website.com” and ”http://website.com” one of these should be set as preferred, which can be done using Google Webmaster Tools.
  • The next thing to do is to make URLs static if they are not already. Instead of having something like this:

/product.php?productid=12345/

at the end of the slug, you should have something like this:

/black-women-shoes/

Search engines can now read dynamic URLs, but you want to make it as easy as possible for them to crawl the website. Besides, in dynamic URLs no keywords can be included, so you are losing a valuable SEO asset.

  • Setting the URL of products to something like http://domain.com/product name/ regardless of the path used to get to the product will help you with handling duplicate content created by the existence of pages with URLs such as /women-shoes/black-women-shoes/ and /black-shoes/black-women-shoes/ with the same content.

Handling duplicate content

  • Check the meta data on the home page, category and product pages. If they are not unique, you have a problem. Titles and descriptions are a good SEO opportunity and have to be written manually, after a thorough keyword research.
  • Check the descriptions of products. If they are taken from the manufacturer’s website, chances are many other websites use them too. Rewrite them, and make them fresh and relevant.
  • Consider including user reviews and Q&A on the product pages. This is a great way to create unique content on each page with the help of the users.

Handling 404 errors

  • Having too many of these 404 Error pages is anything but good. You need to get rid of these by using redirection. They have to be 301 redirected to the existing pages of the website in order to avoid loose ends.
  • Creating a custom 404 page can also be helpful if you put links to other pages on the website there and a search bar. This will prevent potential customers from simply leaving when the server returns 404 error code instead of a page. You can get really creative with these custom pages, using them to invite potential customers to explore the rest of the website, since the page they were looking for no longer exists.

Improving information architecture

Information architecture is the way the pages on a website link to each other. This is often very chaotic if no SEO was done, and you need to put some order there. Consider the importance of every page and how many clicks are required to reach that page from the home page. Too many means people are going to leave not being able to find what they were looking for. So consider these two options:

  • Flat architecture with meaningful category interconnections
This is a somewhat better option, in my opinion, but you need to decide on your own. Basically, it means that any page on the website is no more than three clicks away from the homepage, and that the product pages belonging to the same categories are linked to each other. Now, you have to be careful because too many product pages mean you cannot put all of them on every page, but choose only the related ones.
  • Siloing
This is a slightly more complicated to explain, but basically you create silos by grouping the content thematically. Different silos are kept away from each other (not linked to each other), and the internal linking happens within a silo. This requires thorough planning.

Considering the content that can be used for promotion

You have a bunch of products in front of you and have no idea where to begin with promoting all of that stuff. Sounds familiar?

  • The first thing to do is to identify the most valuable assets on the website. Visit Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools and see what are the most frequent landing pages, what pages keep your customers’ attention longer than others, what are the products that are the most popular and bought most often, what pages are being linked to. Use these pages for promotion and for determining the improvements you would want to make on other pages as well.
  • You should also identify the places on the web your target customers hang around a lot and use these to get your message across.

This article can be your starting point to do just enough to improve the websites standing, but try building on it further. The more you work on it, the better it will get.

Indirect methods of getting revenue from Quora

Quora
Photo: Screenshot, quora.com

It has 200 million monthly users which makes it another great advertising platform. You can pose questions here and you get answers. The same strategy can be used to build up your marketing efforts.

For example, you are in the Finance industry and then you find a typical question about “Mutual Funds or Stock Market”. The number of views that an answer to such a question can be in million views. Since the platform is not limited to one answer and a person, many people can resolve the same question in different ways.

For example, yours is a online financial business who are selling stocks or funds, this is a great way to promote your product portfolios. You just give an enchanting answer that is reliable and useful to the target audience and leave a link to a good post on your site. That’s it! People who dwell further will go into your blog and reach for your products if they think it fits their needs.

Always try to answer a typical question in your niche at the earliest. Write a comprehensive answer that elongates to a few paragraphs. Also add a visual component such as video or pictures. As said before, leave a quick link which will be useful to the reader.

One user made a significant strands in building up his affiliate income through Quora. He was initially a voracious reader of questions and answers and did not do much about it. But being in the e-commerce industry for 8 years, he thought that he can make use of this platform for his daily income. So instead of linking to his blog, he swapped his past links with affiliate ones. He made a decent amount of money.

Some of the other important affiliate networks include:

  • Share-A-Sale
  • Rakuten
  • FlexOffers
  • Commission Junction

One can also leave a profile link which can useful to promote your blog or other service pages that you are good at. People not only look at answers but the person who answered it and their details. This could be a good way to promote a nice sales pitch.

Another important way to monetize Quora is leave a link to your Udemy courses. Once Quora visitors reach that target and share your course, it would be a double bonus of your marketing sales agenda.

Networking is another opportunity you can find only in Quora. Several big brand marketers give their answers on it. If you find the right person, who is in search of a talented person in their business, he will be eager to take you in. At least has the sense to call for an interview. It could be a Coca-Cola company executive or FlipKart associate.

Some other proficient ways of earning passive income could be

– Create YouTube channels and promote here
– Blogs of different niches
– Create HD photos and link to your Instagram or Pinterest pins
– Become a teacher of foreign language
– Sell your services like manual translation services
– Make profit from digital goods like MyThemeShop if you are a WordPress user.

Conclusion

An affiliate making money in health niche may not be good at Tech niche. Similarly a blogger who made good Adsense income from automotive niche, may not get that much profit from Instagram.

At the end, you need patience and learn the new ways of earning online by reading constantly. Then spend some time on re-thinking and how you can tailor the same technique to the methods mentioned above.

The difference between magnetic pull-off thickness gauge and magnetic induction thickness gauge

When we’re talking measurements, the images that usually flood our minds are of the mundane types, such as tape measurement in tailoring or dressmaking or measuring cups for the purpose of cooking.

These types of measurement are what is most commonly known as direct measurements, in that the observer require direct access to the object being measured. But what if we’re required to measure vast distances or when circumstances limit our access to the object itself? That’s when science and technology comes into play.

With airplanes for example, air traffic controllers pinpoint their location using radars, using electromagnetic waves and their reflected waves to accurately measure the distance between the radar and the airplane.

Ships use sonar to measure how deep the surrounding water is, using similar basic principle as radars. This same principle is also applied to dry film thickness (DFT) measurement tools such as the Elcometer, which measures the coating thickness, usually paint, that’s applied to a surface.

Coating thickness measurement

Other than the distinction between direct and indirect measurement, DFT measurement is also divided into destructive testing and non-destructive testing. Destructive testing refers to any analyzing or testing practice that causes damage to the object being measured while non-destructive testing keeps the object unharmed. Obviously, the latter method is much preferred. Imagine for example if doctors have to cut into your body every time they perform a diagnosis.

In DFT measurement, because we’re usually dealing with very fine objects, destructive testing is quite similar to those biology projects that you might have done in school. It usually involves cutting a cross section of the object being measured and uses that sample for measurement using a magnifier or a microscope. Non-destructive testing usually utilizes laws of physics and technology to measure distance without damaging the object.

Common non-destructive measurement tools include ultrasonic thickness gauge, which works on the same principle as sonar and radar, and magnetic thickness gauge, which utilizes laws of magnetism to measure small distances. Because they take advantage of magnets, these tools are only effective on magnetic substrates such as most metals. They are further divided into magnetic pull-off thickness gauge and magnetic induction gauges.

Magnetic pull-off thickness gauge

This tool is named so because it measures distance by calculating the amount of force needed to pull-off the magnet from the surface. The idea is that the easier it is to pull the magnet away, the thicker the coating that has been applied to the surface. Because of its simplicity, this type of gauge is usually inexpensive and fairly portable with the caveat that they’re not as accurate as magnetic induction gauges.

Magnetic pull-off thickness gauge comes in pencil-type models or rollback dial models. Pencil-type models uses a helical-shaped spring that is positioned perpendicular to the surface and can usually be used in only one or two position to account for gravity. The magnet compresses the spring as the gauge is held against the surface while a scale converts the amount of force being applied to the spring into the measured distance between the tip of the magnet and the metal object, which is defined as the coating thickness.

Rollback dial models are more common because unlike pencil-type models, they don’t have to account for gravity. In a rollback dial model, a magnet is attached to a balanced arm, which is connected to a calibrated spring. A dial on the balanced arm can be rotated to increase the force from the spring on the magnet and pulls it away from the surface. This force is what’s measured by the device, which is also converted into the coating thickness.

Magnetic and electromagnetic induction gauge

This type of device is divided into two, magnetic induction gauge which houses a permanent magnet and an electromagnetic induction gauge which uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to generate a magnetic field. Both devices work by gauging the magnetic flux density when the device is held against the surface, which increases as the distance grows closer. The device converts these changes in flux density to measure the coating thickness of the object.

Unlike magnetic pull-off gauge which uses an actual scale, the reading from magnetic induction gauge is presented digitally on an LCD display. Magnetic induction gauge is more sophisticated and more accurate than magnetic pull-off thickness gauge and as such, is several degrees more costly and is prevalent in industrial uses.

Despite their limitations on magnetic substrates, magnetic gauge remains a popular option for the measurement of coating thickness. Unlike other types of non-destructive testing, they tend to require very little calibration. Because the size of the magnetic probe is usually small, they are capable of handling curved surfaces, as long as the curve isn’t particularly extreme.

5 tips for planning your next business conference

Business conferences can be tricky beasts to plan. Unless you’re an event organising pro, the litany of boxes that need to be ticked, such as creating a compelling agenda, booking the venue, organising enough food and drink, making sure there’s adequate parking, installing the necessary tech and plenty more besides, can be somewhat overwhelming.

So what can you do to make sure your next business conference goes according to plan? We’ve compiled these top conference planning tips to help…

1. Create a wish list and cost it

Whatever the intended purpose of the conference, whether it’s to motivate the sales force, launch a product or bring geographically dispersed teams together, you need to think about what you’d like to achieve and how you’ll get there. That includes:

  • Where the best location for the venue will be
  • How long the conference will last
  • Whether you want to engage external speakers
  • If you need breakout rooms to host sessions on multiple topics
  • What printed or web-based material you’ll need
  • Whether additional tech and audio systems are required
  • The type of food and drink you’ll provide

Professional event planning guides will help to ensure you’ve covered all bases. After you’ve created your conference wish list, then it’s time to cost it. If it doesn’t fit your budget, you’ll have to look at how you can achieve everything you want for less. For example, while an external speaker might be a nice-to-have, is it really essential to get your message across? Similarly, while you might like to make a statement with a high-class venue in a central location, could you find the same facilities elsewhere?

2. Plan the agenda

Once you have the bare bones of your conference in place, you can then start thinking about creating the agenda. Building the conference agenda is a huge undertaking in itself. Think about how you’ll create real value and actionable takeaways for your attendees.

Experiential learning is an excellent way to deliver content in a more engaging way. Giving attendees the chance to get out of their seats and learn by doing can boost information retention and create bonds between them. Even introducing an element of interactivity by providing simple audience response systems can greatly improve the delivery of the content and move you away from the dreaded ‘death by PowerPoint’ scenario.

When the agenda has been created, you should make it available on social media. That will give attendees the chance to prepare and think about what they hope to achieve.

3. Think like an attendee

The next step is to consider the on-site details. That includes everything from the layout of the rooms and the distribution of food and drinks to the timing of the sessions and how attendees will navigate between them.

At this stage, it’s important to think like an attendee. Walk through the itinerary as your guests would. Have you given them enough time to travel between rooms and have a bathroom break without having to rush? Are there water machines en route? At what point will they able to stop for a hot drink? Picturing how attendees will think and act throughout the day will help you get it right.

4. Look for outside inspiration

Although you might be perfectly capable of planning a conference on your own, it always pays to cast your eyes outside your sphere for inspiration. Social media is a simple resource to tap into along with relevant blogs on the latest trends. You might find that there are ideas you hadn’t thought of that you can implement yourself, or there are vendors and partners you can work with to take your conference to the next level.

5. Put a post-conference strategy in place

Instead of breathing a sigh of relief that it’s all over, successful businesses do everything they can to continue building the momentum. The clearer your goals before the event, the easier it is to plan for the future.

Ask attendees questions like:

  • What did you learn?
  • What did you find beneficial?
  • What challenges were not addressed?
  • What would you have improved?

This can help you improve future conferences and identify other areas where training and development opportunities can be implemented now.

Follow these planning tips and we hope your next business conference will be engaging, beneficial and much more than just a relaxing day away from the office!

Make your home look expensive without breaking the bank!

We all love the idea of living in a home that is fully decked out in the coolest décor and finishes, but unfortunately, a Beverly Hills look also comes with a Beverly Hills price tag. Most of us don’t have the budget to do an entire reno or decorate our homes with designer homewares, but don’t despair!

We’ve got some out-of-the-box ideas to help you elevate the look and feel of your home quickly, easily and affordably. Get the luxe look for less with these easy-to-implement tips!

Exterior

Let’s start with what guests first see when they approach your home – the exterior! A neat and eye-catching exterior will not only impress guests, but will also increase the value of your home as a whole, as its kerb appeal will be off the charts.

Those looking to add a lush touch to the exterior of their home with minimal effort or expense should consider natural-looking artificial grass. With artificial grass, you can fake the look of a perfectly-manicured lawn without any of the maintenance.

This saves time and money, and makes sure your lawn looks flawless regardless of how much rain or sunshine you’re getting. Another easy way to freshen up the exterior of your home is to simply paint your front door in an interesting colour, like a popping pink or muted yellow, to welcome guests in a vibrant way.

Bedroom

We all want our bedrooms to feel like a luxurious haven, but unfortunately, this can take some serious dollars. One simple and affordable way you can instantly elevate the look of your bedroom is to add an upholstered headboard.

Alternatively, if you love the regality of canopy beds, you can try attaching some sheer materials above your bed. This creates an ethereal vibe on the cheap.

Finally, try piling up the pillows and throws so that your bed looks as if you could just melt right into it.

Living room

sofa decor

Of course, not everything in your home should be done on the cheap. One of the pieces of furniture worth investing in is your sofa. Think about it – you’re gonna sit on your couch every day for the next decade or so! Opt for a stylish sofa where the legs are visible, as this creates an effortlessly airy look, in stark contrast to its stuffy, covered-up counterparts.

A totally free tweak you can make to further elevate your living room is to draw attention away from the TV. You can do this by positioning it in a corner or simply giving the eye something more interesting to look at in the rest of the room.

Kitchen

Add subtle gold touches throughout your kitchen to make it look like something out of a fine dining restaurant. The easiest way to do this is by getting rose gold cutlery or appliances with gold accents, which are fairly easy to come by.

You can also upgrade the hardware on your cabinets and drawers to add a sophisticated touch without having to empty your entire wallet. If you’re looking for a totally free way to enhance your kitchen, just tidy it up!

Organise your pantry essentials into trendy mason jars, label them and line them up neatly for a truly Insta-worthy look.

General tips

There are also some principles you can adopt throughout your entire home to make it look as if an interior designer worked on it.

  • Stick to a simple colour palette. With a clean and basic backdrop, any furniture or decor item will pop. Your space will feel effortlessly cohesive against muted or pastel shades, while also saving you the effort of colour coordinating your space.
  • Be a little minimalist. When your space is free of clutter, it not only feels chic, but you’ll also save a tonne of money by having to buy fewer pieces!
  • Fresh flowers. Some lovely blooms instantly add colour and life to any room, with lush bouquets looking especially indulgent.

The most important website trend since mobile responsiveness

Netflix are doing it. Apple have done it for years. Google is the best example.

It’s called, simplicity.

If mobile responsiveness has ensured websites now need to be simpler, user trends have ensured that key information now needs to be more immediate. Gone are the days of discovery.

Take a look at the Netflix site and you’ll see there’s barely any info – just one, rather large, call to action button.

The Apple homepage loads with a simple image of the iPhone X and 2 options, learn more or buy.

And everyone knows that the Google page has just 1 option – search.

Whilst there is more information on these pages available, it’s discrete. It’s as if the UX designers have accepted that anyone wanting to know something more will be prepared to search for it outside of the main viewing pane. These super-brands have a lot to offer, could write thousands of webpages covering ‘their story’, ‘about us’ or ‘my blog’ but instead they choose to focus on the user.

Why is this becoming a trend?

People scroll – pausing only to read a caption or view an image – but rarely does one settle on a page for a good read. We’ve all been trained by Instagram to digest information quickly, scroll to what we want or swipe past anything that doesn’t take our fancy. We’ve become masters of the fast assessment and we’re all too quick to swipe past something that doesn’t immediately connect with our needs.

How can websites adapt to this trend?

As a copywriter, I produce a lot of website content and I’ve developed a useful way to help business owners simplify their homepage.

Step 1.

Write a list of what you hope a website visitor is thinking when they visit your website.

In the case of Netflix it might be “I want to sign up for a free month.”

In the case of Apple it might “I want to buy the new iPhone X.”

In the case of Google it might be “I intend to search for something”.

Step 2.

Organise which of those ‘thoughts’ are most important to you. What is your primary purpose. If you had to cherry pick something, what would it be?

Step 3.

Make it oh so simple on your website that’s what you do. Use as few words as possible. Create a button for the action you want the user to take.

If you’re a burger restaurant in Manly, you may want a ‘get directions’ button.

If you’re a Mechanic, you may want a ‘get a quote’ button

If you provide SaaS; ‘start a free trial’.

The key is to make it as easy as possible to trigger the most meaningful action to your business. And by removing a lot of the clutter, users tend to follow your chosen path more often, rather than getting lost in the site and leaving.

But you also need to be aware of the user intent when a visitor uses your site. If you can match their intent, with your key message and trigger a call to action, then you’re likely to generate more leads or sales.

In terms of content, it’s where your primary purpose intersects with user intent.

In the case of Apple: User searches for “buy iPhone X online”, they navigate to the Apple homepage, and because their intent was to purchase, they click on the purchase option which is displayed clearly and obviously. It’s simple, but you’d be surprised how many websites over complicate things.

In digital marketing circles, much has been made of website conversion percentages. Of course, the website design, the trust you build with the audience and even the photography can significantly enhance your chances of securing a conversion – and all of those items still need to be considered. But, by making your primary call-to-action the one that’s the most important to your business, typically means you’ll get more of that type of conversion.

5 crucial things to know before moving to Denmark

Because of its progressive ideals, democratic society, and focus on aesthetics, Denmark is a country that many Australians want to relocate to.

However, as with any location, moving to this Scandinavian country is not as simple as buying a plane ticket. There is a lot of important information that you must first know in order to make settling down in this country an easy and hassle-free process.

If you are considering residing in Denmark as an Australian in the near future, here is a relocation guide to the crucial information that will help you arrive at a well-informed decision and make your move truly successful.

1. Legal requirements

passport

Since in Australia you are outside the EU, it is traditionally more difficult to get a permanent residency visa. To enter Denmark, you must have a valid passport and acquire a visa for a long-term stay. You will only be issued a permanent residency card once you have lived in Denmark for at least eight years.

But today, the Danish government offers different schemes to let expats move into the country easily.

The Pay Limit Scheme is an example; it allows expats with a high-salary job to reside in Denmark. A residence permit based on this scheme will let you stay in this country while the permit is valid. Also, it allows you to stay (but not work) in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period.

Visa requirements are likely to change over time, so be sure to get the latest information when planning your relocation. A qualified international removal company will be able to point you in the right direction regarding visas.

2. Cost of living

Before deciding to leave your current way of life behind, you need to know if you can afford Denmark’s cost of living first. Today, the cost of living in this country is considered the world’s third most expensive.

Transportation, rental accommodation, eating out, and groceries are significantly more expensive. Remember, though, that salaries are higher in Denmark than in other countries and that there are several welfare services that are free of charge.

3. Job search

Job search

Finding a job in Denmark is a lot easier if you know how to speak Danish. Government jobs, for instance, require jobseekers to be fluent in Danish. English fluency won’t ensure that you get the best jobs because most Danes are fluent as well. You can only find a job without being fluent in Danish within the a tech or engineering industries.

Thus, learning Danish is a must. This will also make socialization a lot easier. As an expat, you can actually take Danish lessons free of charge, provided that you meet the requirements.

4. Housing

Buying a property in Denmark is costly, so it is recommended that you first rent property before considering a purchase. Some of the most sought-after areas to reside in include Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus, and Aalborg. Keep in mind that the south of Copenhagen is cheaper than the north.

When it comes to finding housing, a residency permit makes this process a lot easier. Most landlords will ask for your CPR number. Rental properties include terraced houses and apartments with shared communal spaces.

When renting property, expect to pay a deposit, which is equivalent to a three-month rental fee. Also, you have to pay this via bank transfer. But before doing so, make sure to sign an understandable rental contract.

Petrol is too expensive in Denmark. In fact, paying for the fuel to explore the country is more expensive than paying a car rental fee. As such, bikes are considered a necessity in this country. This is the easiest, most convenient, and affordable mode of transportation. It is for this reason that most locals commute on a bike.

But since biking is a serious way to travel in Denmark, you must know and follow rules and make use of the proper hand signals. Failing to do so will upset other bikers and can even lead to fines.

When moving to Denmark, there are several issues to address and a lot of important things that you must know and understand. This is the only way to ensure a smooth, successful relocation process. Once you have made your final decision, start preparing as early as possible.

To make your move easier and hassle-free, hire the best overseas movers in Australia. These professionals will ensure that your international move is organized from the beginning and is done correctly. Whether you’ll need basic moving services like freight management and packing or storage solutions, they will do everything on your behalf. In addition to that, they will provide you with all the practical help and professional advice you need for your international move.

Scott Morrison wins Liberal leadership spill, becomes Prime Minister

After two days of political chaos, the dust has settled in the Liberal party room and Scott Morrison has emerged as the next Prime Minister.

He won the ballot with 45-40 against Peter Dutton, with Julie Bishop being knocked out in an earlier round of voting.

The news of Mr Morrison’s victory comes as somewhat of a surprise, with analysts predicting Peter Dutton as the party favourite to replace Malcolm Turnbull. Indeed, it was Mr Dutton who initially prompted the leadership crisis and called on the PM to hold a second spill.

For many this is a relief as Peter Dutton represented a hard right conservative pushback from within the Liberal party against some of Malcolm Turnbull’s centrist positions. For many people within the Liberal party, Scott Morrison presents a better hope of winning the next election than Peter Dutton.

In his final address to Australians as Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull thanked the people of the nation and reminisced about his government’s achievements, citing record jobs growth and the legalisation of same-sex marriage.

Of his successor, Mr Turnbull said that he has been both a loyal and effectual treasurer.

He also took the chance to take aim at the “insurgency” that has brought down his Government from within. He said that they were “determined” to destroy his office by any means necessary.

He did, however, applaud those who voted in his favour, citing their loyalty in not rewarding Peter Dutton’s ambition.

Mr Turnbull then announced that he would be leaving parliament, which means that there will need to be a by-election for his Wentworth seat in Sydney.

After his party room defeat, Mr Dutton said that he would give his “absolute loyalty” to the new Prime Minister. He cited the fact that the Liberal party needed to unite in order to prevent Labor’s Bill Shorten from winning the next election, a prospect that the Liberals have suggested would be almost apocalyptic for Australia.

How to feed your informational Android app with data regularly

Although app development companies have produced a lot of apps for different purposes, there is a niche where they are not doing so well. It is the informational niche.

People search the net for so many types of information and android apps can be developed for this purpose. Here are some examples of informational needs that Android apps can meet.

News

Although there are several news agencies, none of them can capture all the news. So, to be well informed, you may need to read news from several news sites. An app can be produced to gather news from multiple sites and summarize each of them. The app will also remove duplicity. So, instead of having to read several newspapers or news sites, users can just download a single app. It is more convenient and it saves a lot of time.

Prices of products and services

An Android app can be created to search for prices of particular products or services and the app will be updated regularly. For instance, you can focus on airfares offered by different airlines.

All a user has to do is to download and launch the app to check what each of the numerous airlines charges for a particular air route. It will be easier for him to check on a single app rather than check the website of each airline.

Stock values

Prices of stock are very volatile and they change everyday. In fact, the prices of certain stock change multiple times a day. An app can be created to gather information from several sites every 5 or 10 minutes and when there is a particular price change, the user of the app will be alerted. That way, people will no longer need to keep track of changes in stock prices because the app will alert them of any price change.

These are just a few examples of need gaps for android apps. However, the major challenge is how to keep getting required information. This is where web scraping comes into play. It is the process of gathering information from multiple sites.

Unfortunately, it can’t be done manually because of all the large volume of data required and the number of sites you will scrape data from. There are several web scraping applications and service providers but some of them are more efficient than others.

Instead of having to search for a web scraping tool to use, this article will introduce a very effective web scraping platform for you. It will be feeding your app with the data gathered from stipulated sites as frequently as you want. The platform is CrawlBoard web extraction platform.

How to use CrawlBoard web extraction platform

According to Hyperlink InfoSystem – an app development company, there are so many tutorials for DIY web scraping all over the internet. If you only need to extract just a small amount of data, the tutorials can help. But if you need to extract a large volume of data on a regular basis, then you should hire an experienced third party web scraping company.

Crawlboard is one of the providers of such services and a lot of people have been using it for their web scraping task. The platform is very efficient. So, it is recommended for people who need to scrape a large amount of data regularly.

Apart from its efficiency, it is also easy to use. The simple steps required to make use of the platform have been outlined here.

First step:

Go to CrawlBoard web scraping request page by clicking this link. Fill the registration form appropriately. There are fields for first name, last name, company email address, and job role. When you are done, just click the signup button. An automatic mail will be sent to the email address you provided for verification. Open the email and click on the verification link to activate your new CrawlBoard account.

Second step:

The main objective of this step is to add a site to crawl but you need to first create a sitegroup. A sitegroup is a group of sites having similar structure. This is for people that usually need to scrape data from multiple sites at once.

To create a sitegroup, click on the “Create a new sitegroup” link. It is located at the right side of Sitegroup selection box. After that, you can now add all the sites that belong to the sitegroup one after the other by clicking on the Add link that is located on the top right corner of the page. Then, select the sites one by one.

Third step:

Go to the sitegroup creation window to provide a preferred unique name for your sitegroup. Remember that all the sites in a sitegroup should have the same structure otherwise you may not get accurate content.

To understand the significance of sitegroup, take job listing sites for example. If the requested task is to scrape jobs from job boards, then you will need to create a sitegroup to match the function and all the sites in the sitegroup will be job listing sites.

Fourth step:

According to the required fields on this screen, you need to choose the frequency of data extraction, delivery format, and method of delivery. Frequencies of data scraping are daily, weekly, monthly, and custom.

For delivery format, you can choose one among XML, JSON, and CSV. And for delivery method, you need to select among FTP, Dropbox, Amazon S3, and REST API.

Fifth step:

The screen is meant for additional information. It is meant for users to further describe their web scraping task. Although it is optional, it is important to include additional information because the more you describe your task, the more the service provider will understand exactly what you want and it will yield better result.

You can also ask for some value-added services on this screen. Some of them are Hosted indexing, File merging, Image downloads, and Expedited delivery.

Sixth step:

Here, you only need to click on the “Send for feasibility check” button. The purpose is for the service provider to check if your task is feasible. You will get an email informing you if your task is feasible or not. If it is, you can now go and make payment. Once your payment is confirmed, CrawlBoard team will swing into action.

After paying, you only need to await your data feeds in the format specified by you, via your preferred delivery method. That way, all the technically complicated aspect of data scraping will be handled by CrawlBoard.

8 incredible things you didn’t know about living in Australia

Australia is a fascinating country, home to a wide mix of different people from all over the world, spread over an enormous landmass. Australia boasts some of the most incredibly diverse landscape in the entire world, from humid tropics to snow capped mountains and beautiful wilderness. It has a unique culture and an amazing array of wildlife, all of which makes it one of the best places in which to live.

If you’re thinking of moving to Australia, there are a few things you’ll need to know about life there. Australia is a lot more than mere hot weather, barbeques and parties, although you will no doubt encounter a lot of these. In this article, we’ll cover some of the incredible things you might not know about life in the Land Down Under.

Australia is huge

The whole of Australia measures more than three million square miles. This may not seem like much, until you place a map of Australia over a map of Europe. You‘ll then realise that Australia covers the whole of Europe and more.

Therefore, if you plan on living in Australia, you’ll need to put this in perspective when deciding on where to stay. You will need a decent amount of time and energy to journey just from Perth to Sydney, given just how large the country is.

When it shines, it really does

Australia is known for having some really hot weather. In fact, there’s a fairly good chance of sunny weather every day of the year in most parts of the country. In some areas, summer temperatures can exceed 40 degrees Celsius. Not so long back, the scorching Australian sun melted tarmac roads and killed hundreds of baby bats in the process.

The hot Australian sun is not only dangerous to bats, but of course to humans as well. This is why the ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ campaign was introduced in the 1980s. So, if you want to stay safe in Australia, ensure you slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat before stepping outdoors.

Walk on the left

It’s public knowledge that Australians drive on the left hand side, but not many people know that they walk on the left as well. In other parts of Europe, people drive on the left, but walk anywhere they feel like, but this is not so in Australia.

Here, there are rules to follow for driving and walking; so much so, the covert rule of walking states that you must walk on the left. Of course, it’s not a crime to walk on the right, but you’ll likely find that you’re the only person doing so and could end up feeling a bit silly.

Jaywalking is a crime

If you plan to live in Australia, you should know that you can’t just cross the road when you feel like. Although you might not be jailed for jaywalking, you’ll still be fined AUD$70. This might not seem like much money, but it’s still something to be avoided. Between 2014 and 2015, more than 10,000 people were fined for jaywalking in Sydney alone.

The rules are simple; look for an approved crossing point such as a zebra crossing if you want to cross the road. If you can’t find one, be ready to walk for as long as necessary until you do. While Australians might be laid back about a lot of things, they are super strict when it comes to walking. If you can’t abide by this rule, then feel free to stay indoors.

Australia is known for being one of the most beautiful countries in the world; it is also home to a large number of natural UNESCO heritage sites. Three of these sites are categorised as cultural sites, while sixteen are categorised as natural wonders.

Altogether, Australia has nineteen UNESCO world heritage sites, making it the country with the most such sites in the world. This means you’ll have a lot of exciting places to visit in your spare time.

Healthcare is free

In Australia, you’ll get to enjoy free healthcare. This is known as Medicare and is available to anyone who is a permanent resident. There have also been a series of agreements between Australia and countries like New Zealand and the UK, which allows temporary visitors to have access to free healthcare.

Of course, permanent residents get to pay for free healthcare via their taxes, which amounts to 2% of their income. However, if you look it more closely, you’ll realise that this is far cheaper than private healthcare.

However, emergency ambulance journeys to hospital have to be paid for, although you can take out ambulance insurance to take care of such fees.

Smoking is expensive

You might need to control your habit of smoking if you plan to live in Australia for a prolonged spell, as the government has made it extremely expensive for smokers. This was done in a bid to discourage Australians from smoking. At the time of writing, smokers pay AUD$0.7 per cigarette in tax – a figure that is expected to increase periodically.

This is one of the highest taxes on smoking in the world. In fact, tax on cigarettes will increase by 12.5% every September until 2020, eventually bringing the cost of a pack of cigarettes to AUD$40. So, if you’re relocating to Australia and have a cigarette habit, you might want to consider kicking it.

Australians have a different sense of humour

When you arrive in Australia, you’ll find out that the locals have a different sense of humour from what you’re used to. However, their relentless insults and ribald jokes don’t mean they dislike you in any way; it’s just what’s known as ‘Aussie humour’.  In fact, Australians enjoy having a joke at everyone’s expense – including themselves – and don’t see anything wrong with this.

They have a habit of seeing the funny side of every situation, so what might seem a serious matter to you will likely elicit jokes and laughter from your new Australian friends. When this happens, don’t be offended; just take it in your stride.

Hopefully, the eight points above have given you a better clue of what to expect when you move to Australia.

You will definitely find something that suits you, as Australian is known for having something for everyone. If you’re not put off by the scorching sun and unique humour, you’ll most certainly enjoy your stay in the Land Down Under.
