Shonda Rhimes launches Shondaland Audio with iHeartMedia

Shonda Rhimes has taken over the world of television. Now, the acclaimed multihyphenate is eyeing to conquer the world of podcasting with iHeartMedia. The collaboration between the Emmy-nominated writer and producer and the mass media company will see the launch of Shondaland Audio.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” creator will be executive producing a new lineup of original content for her new podcasting banner. The iHeartpodcast Network will have exclusive distribution rights for the content. Under their new deal, a full slate of iHeartRadio Original Podcasts will be released over the next three years. The development of the shows will be overseen by Rhimes with Chief Digital and Design Officer Sandi Bailey managing its daily operations.

Rhimes shared her excitement for the project in a statement published by Variety. The “Scandal” creator said:

“Podcasting continues to see tremendous growth and I’m excited to partner with iHeartMedia as Shondaland expands its storytelling journey into this medium which has seemed to usher in a unique sense of boldness, intimacy, and connection.”

The statement continued, “With iHeartMedia we aim to share stories that are engaging, insightful, and reflect a robust world-view while staying true to the authentic storytelling voice that has become synonymous with Shondaland.”

This won’t be the superproducer’s first venture in the podcasting industry. Back in 2017, Shondaland productions released “Katie’s Crib”. The podcast played weekly and aired conversations about motherhood with its guests. It was hosted b Scandal actress Katie Lowes. New and upcoming episodes of the podcast will now be under Shondaland Audio’s originals.
