It is no secret that in the world of entertainment, there is a lot of pressure to look a certain way.

Countless celebrities such as Demi Lovato and Lili Reinhart have spoken about their issues with body image. But the most recent celebrity to speak out about the topic is singer Sam Smith.

Last year, Smith admitted in an interview that “My body image is always going to be an issue,” the singer went on to say that  “I need to constantly train myself to watch the right sort of films, to not look at certain ads and think that’s how my stomach should look.”

Body image is an issue that many women deal with on a daily basis, with women of all ages admitting that they struggle to live up to expectations. This can be partly blamed on social media and the pressure to look filtered and flawless at all times.

However, Smith recognises that this is an issue many men face as well, claiming “I think men should talk about it more.”

Over the last couple of years, there has been a lot of discussion in Hollywood about promoting positive body image. It appears that the ‘Promises’ singer is the latest star to jump on the bandwagon.

Smith (26) took to Instagram to share his thoughts on body image and explain how he is now ready to “fight the f–k back.”

In this post, he admits to spending years of his life worrying about the way he looks and struggling with a negative body image due to trauma he experienced as a child.

The singer also admitted to feeling anxious prior to photoshoots “In the past if I have ever done a photo shoot with so much as a t-shirt on, I have starved myself for weeks in advance and then picked and prodded at every picture and then normally taken the picture down,”

Smith also admits that he was “constantly looking in the mirror, pinching my waist, weighing myself every day.”

However, the singer has now stated that he wants to “Reclaim my body and stop trying to change this chest and these hips and these curves that my mum and dad made and love so unconditionally.”
