Casting talks between the production behind the 4th Matrix installment and actress Priyanka Chopra are expected to be finalized.
If all goes well, Matrix fans will see the Quantico actress star alongside Keanu Reeves and other returning cast members as well as new ones. The Matrix saga will be revived in the fourth film under the direction Lana Wachowski who also co-created the series. Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow are backing the project.
Aside from Reeves who will be reprising his role as Neo, returnees include Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) and Jade Pinkett Smith (Niobe). Newcomers joining the cast include Neil Patrick Harris (Gone Girl), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) and Jessica Henwick (Underwater). Details about the film’s plot including Chopra’s prospective character haven’t been revealed.
Insiders report that the cast of the untitled 4th Matrix movie has been training hard for fight sequences weeks prior to the beginning of the production. Shooting is expected to start next week.
Chopra’s casting in the highly-anticipated film comes amid calls for diversity in the Hollywood film industry. Productions are growing increasingly aware of audience demand for minorities to be represented on screen. Chopra is a proactive advocate for diversity in entertainment. Speaking to Forbes in an interview from May last year she said:
“Globally, diversity’s something that is not as loud of a conversation as it should be. And by diversity, it is not just different skin types. It’s different ethnicities, different people of different likes dislikes.”
Chopra admitted that she’s had her fair share of casting disappointments that were due to her race as an Indian-born actress.
