Margot Robbie on Harley Quinn’s heartbreak in Birds of Prey

We’re just a couple of months away from the release of 2020’s highly anticipated Harley Quinn flick. For fans, trailers just aren’t enough to contain their excitement for the anti-heroine’s stand-alone movie. It’s a good thing that Margot Robbie herself is willing to fill us in with more details about Birds of Prey ahead of its release.

Directed by Cathy Yan, Birds of Prey will present a female-centric team of supers from DC Comics. This marks the first time a female group will star in a superhero movie under DC Films. With that being said, it only makes sense to discuss one notable detail that is essential to that film’s plot. The Birds of Prey trailer clearly points out that Harley Quinn the love of her life, Joker, broke up.

While this isn’t the best news for those who ship their loveteam, it’s essential to presenting Robbie’s character as an individual. No longer is Quinn the faithful martyr in Joker’s story. She writes her own narrative now.

Here’s what Robbie says about Quinn and Joker’s dysfunctional relationship:

“Something I explored a lot in Suicide Squad, the first film, was Harley’s co-dependence with The Joker, and obviously he has a huge influence on her.”

“It still affects her, but in a very different way, and I thought we’d see a very different facet of her personalities. ‘Personalities’ I would say, cause I think she has multiple,” she added.

Robbie also teased that we’ll find out the cause behind the two character’s breakup.
