Liam Payne says One Direction was “toxic” amid Louis Tomlinson feud

Liam Payne opens up about the dark side of One Direction’s massive global fame. The singer looks back at his years in the band saying the environment was “toxic.” Four years after they disbanded, the “Strip That Down” singer admits a secrete feud was brewing between him and Louis Tomlinson.

From the outside, everyone in the popular boy band seemed like good mates. As it turns out, such was not the case. Payne tells Hits Radio Breakfast that he and Tomlinson “absolutely hated each other”. Which makes us wonder how good the relationship really was between band members including Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan.

Payne says there was a power struggle between him and Louis. “When we were in the band it kind of felt like, because he was the oldest and because I’d been singing for quite a bit of time we both got put in a weird position,” he told the radio show.

The singer continued, “He was wanting to be the leader, and I was doing my thing and wanted to. So, at first, we didn’t get on at all.”

“We absolutely hated each other, it was so funny. Really bad. We hid it well,” he added.

Aside from this, Liam also spoke up about his struggles with mental health issues that were magnified by life in One Direction. He even recalls having anxiety attacks so intense he didn’t want to go out into the world despite being forced to perform on stage.

Each of the band’s members is now pursuing their own solo careers and have found success in finding their own sound.
