The star behind the iconic villain Cersei Lannister is an executive producer and lead actress in the Showtime dramedy Rita.

Lena Headey is arguably one of the best talents on the HBO show Game of Thrones. Now, the actress is taking her remarkable acting prowess elsewhere. Particularly in the American television network, Showtime. She will portray the titular role as a “headstrong, unconventional teacher and single mother who takes on every kind of authority – as well as her family – in a messy and unfiltered way,” according to a network description.

And to the fans who think they didn’t get enough of Headey in the final season of GOT, well they are in for a treat. The pilot episode for the upcoming series will be an hour long.

President of Showtime Jana Winograde said in a statement: “Rita is a deliciously subversive character who will make you laugh and cry as she continuously challenges the hypocrisy around her.”

Winograde continued to say of the actress, “It goes without saying that Lena Headey is a force, whose essence is ideal to take on this wonderfully dynamic lead role.” Indeed, the talented actress is a heck of a force to be reckoned with.

Rita is an adaptation of a Danish series of the same name. The original series premiered in Denmark back in the year 2012 staring Millie Dinesen as the titular role. All four seasons are currently distributed on Netflix. The U.S. adaptation was previously attempted by network Bravo but didn’t end up moving forward.
