Julie Andrews says she didn’t know about Princess Diaries 3

Previously, Anne Hathaway herself confirmed rumors that a third Princess Diaries installment is in the works. But Julie Andrews, who played a key role in the first two films apparently has no idea about the project.

Andrews spoke about the matter when she made a guest appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. On the Thursday episode, the 84-year-old silver screen legend discussed her sentiments on reprising the role of Queen Clarisse Renaldi once again. The actress starred opposite Hathaway who played her granddaughter Mia Thermopolis in the 2001 Disney movie.

The British actress was caught off guard when a fan asked her for updates on the upcoming project. Andrews, visibly surprised, answered:

“I haven’t heard [there’s a script finished]. There’s been talk about [a third movie] for quite a while.” However, Andrews stayed in good spirits and laughed it off as she answered.

“I think [Hathaway’s] having a second child. She’s busy and I’ve been busy. If it happens, it would be lovely, and if it doesn’t, I wouldn’t have known about so there you go,” she quipped.

Hathaway confirmed that the third film’s script was completed back in January on an episode of Live. During which time, the star mentioned that the third installment could include Andrews. If this is to be believed, the sequel will be a follow up to 2004’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

The 2001 film starred Hathaway as an awkward San Francisco teen who is thrust into royalty. Her life changed when she found out she is the only heir to the throne of the fictional country Genovia.
