Jennifer Lopez will next star in and produce drug cartel biopic “The Godmother”

Jennifer Lopez seems to be busier than ever in films. Her upcoming Hustlers from STX Entertainment hasn’t even made its initial release, but she’s already on top of another project with the production company.

J.Lo will team up with STX for the third time to produce and star in “The Godmother”. The film will feature the story of Griselda Blanco, a drug cartel syndicate who operated a Miami-based cocaine drug trade from the 1980s to the early 2000s.

J.lo will be the next to take on the role after Catherine Zeta-Jones played Blanco in the Lifetime movie Cocaine Godmother: The Griselda Blanco Story. The TV movie aired back in January last year.

“I’ve been forever fascinated by the story of Griselda Blanco and jumped at the chance to play her on screen,” Lopez says about the project. “She is all things we look for in storytelling and dynamic characters – notorious, ambitious, conniving, chilling. In a genre dominated by legendary kingpins, I’m eager to shine a spotlight on this anti-hero and excited to partner with STX for the third time so we can bring this compelling, complicated story to life.”

As for STXfilms, they obviously enjoy working with J.lo as chairman Adam Fogelson said:

“We love working with Jennifer, Elaine, and Benny. They are extraordinary producers and we value their partnership and trust. This is an epic true crime story that Jennifer is passionate about telling and we can’t wait to begin production on The Godmother with her and her team.”
