James Wan’s Mortal Kombat reboot casts Sub-Zero

Gamers unite, the latest movie adaptation of video game Mortal Kombat has found its Sub-Zero.

The James Wan produced film casts ‘The Raid’ actor Joe Taslim for the role. The project will be directed by Simon McQuoid making it his first feature film. So far, McQuoid is credited for directing Sony Playstation commercials.

Newcomer Greg Russo is listed as the movie’s script writer. Lawrence Kasanoff joins in as executive producer. Kasanoff has produced prior entries in the Mortal Kombat franchise including the 1995 original movie adaptation and the tv series Mortal Kombat: Conquest.

The upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot will be released in 2021. Developments ahead of production include the films casting. Taslim’s casting as Sub-Zero is the first to be confirmed by the production. The actor is known for his performances in Star Trek Beyond and Cinemax series, Warrior. He is an experienced martial artist that has 12 years of experience in Indonesia’s national judo team under his belt.

Taslim’s 12-year judo career has earned him several national gold medals before turning his focus to acting after retiring from the sport in 2009.

There’s no news as of yet regarding details of the movie’s plot points. Fans are sitting on the edge of their seats as additional casting announcements have yet been made. The upcoming 2021 Mortal Kombat will be New Line Cinema’s third attempt at bringing the video game to the big screen.

The arcade game first reached the silver screen in 1995 in a movie of the same name followed by 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
