It’s official: Adele files for divorce from husband of two years

British songstress Adele has made her split from husband Simon Konecki official as she filed court papers for divorce.

Adele’s divorce petition was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on September 12, as per The Times. The 31-year-old Grammy winner’s court filing follows the former couple’s announcement a few months ago that they had broken up. The singer’s reps confirmed their initial breakup to Entertainment Tonight back in after seven years as a couple and two years of marriage.

In a statement published by The Associated Press, Adele’s reps said at the time:

“Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

Adele and Konecki have kept their private life away from the limelight and they continue to do so as they figure a way to go about finances and the custody of their son, Angelo. The six-year-old is Konecki’s second child from a previous marriage.

Multiple news outlets report that the pair had opted out of signing a prenuptial agreement prior to getting hitched. Since Adele filed her divorce petition in the state of California, Konecki might be entitled to half the recording artist’s earning from the time they wed, as per People. Adele and Konecki own joint property and the latter’s businesses are also operating in the state.

The former couple met back in 2011 as her second studio album “21” gained momentum. After that, Angelo was born the next year. While outlets reported that the two tied the knot back in 2016, the singer only confirmed their marriage in her acceptance speech during the 2017 Grammy Awards.
