Hilary Duff on Lizzie McGuire reboot: Lizzie and Gordo aren’t a thing

Hilary Duff dished out some major deets about the upcoming Lizzie McGuire reboot arriving on Disney.

In a recent interview with Vulture, the actress reveals that her titular character is engaged–but it’s not to Gordo. Fans of the original show which aired from 2001 to 2004 on Disney channel know all too well about the ‘should’ve been but never was romance between Lizzie and her best friend Gordo (Adam Lamberg).

In fact, the Lizzie McGuire movie left an ultimate cliffhanger after Lizzie and Gordo kiss as the film ended and it never really got any further than that as far as the storyline concerns. It turns out, Lizzie never did end up with her high school sweetheart.

“You know what, I don’t know if I was devastated by that,” Duff says about the whole situation.

“I feel like them not being together is what was so good,” she shared. “It’s that one person that you’re like, ‘Was he the one? Is it ever going to be?’ You’re always kind of wondering. We wanted it to hurt everyone a little bit, and it’ll continue to hurt.”

As to how the reboot will address the matter when it rolls out on Disney’s upcoming streaming platform, we’ll just have to watch to find out. Currently, Lamberg’s involvement in the show has only been discussed according to the star and she hopes he finds the time to appear in it.

“I really hope he’s going to be involved,” Duff said. “We’ve been planning out the season and coming up with what everything looks like, and it’s so important for him to be there for part of it.”
