Find out why Billie Eilish wasn’t at the 2019 MTV VMAs

The biggest stars in the entertainment industry gathered in a star-studded ceremony for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. However, the event was missing one of the brightest artists of this generation, singer Billie Eilish.

The recording artist bagged the title PUSH artist of the year before the VMAs officially kicked off. She even garnered nine nods from varying categories ahead of the event. However, when Hayley Kiyoko presented the award, Eilish only appeared in a pre-recorded video played during the awarding.

“I just wanted to thank you guys so much for making me MTV’s PUSH artist of the year,” Eilish thanked fans in the clip. “Love you.”

Later in the event, the 17-year-old artist was hailed best new artist, a fan-voted title where she went head to head with Lizzo.

“Unfortunately I’m on tour right now, actually in Russia, so I cannot come, which breaks my heart,” The singer explained via a pre-recorded clip showed in lieu of her absence. “I want to thank my fans because you guys are the reason that anybody cares about me at all. So thank you, thank you thank you, I love you guys,” she adds.

The young breakout star previously shared to fans that she was on the way to Moscow through her Instagram Story. She shared a short clip as she boarded a plane as she checked in to “Russia” for the location.

Eilish will return to the United States later this fall. She will be headlining music festivals starting on September 14.
