Emma Watson just coined a new relationship status, being fed up calling herself as single, the actress shared that she is ‘self-partnered’ after facing years of a higher form of peer pressure from the public to settle down and have a family of her own.
Speaking in an interview with activist Paris Lees for British Vogue, the actress shared that she has had to deal with anxiety due to almost being 30 while still not having a significant other or a family as some of her constituents have. She explained that she never bought into the whole ‘I’m Happy Single’ modus operandi. She added that it took her a long time to process her situation and that she is happy now, coining her status as being self-partnered.
The actress opened up to Lees regarding her love life, after the actress was seen kissing an unknown guy just this October. Watson said that she was dating but not to just one person and is going out on dates. The actress added that her friends are the ones who usually set up her dates.
The actress’s interview with Lees also covered her activism in support of gender equality, sustainability, and the huge issue of her being a white feminist. This comes full circle as Watson’s next feature movie, the film adaption of Greta Gerwig’s Little Women and her impending ‘dirty thirty’ birthday next April.
“Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30? This is not a big deal,” the actress said, regarding the big fuss about her turning thirty next year which made her anxious and stressed out from all the public’s expectations.
Watson also divulged that playing Hermione in the Harry Potter franchise has changed her life in more ways than one, being chosen from a school line-up when she was just 9 years old. She struggled to a point where she needed to go to therapy due to the overwhelming celebrity and success that came with the role. Watson shared that she felt guilty not being able to enjoy the role that changed her life more.
“I played a symbol, and I know this because she’s a symbol for me,” Watson said, expressing that she understood why it happened and that she doesn’t judge anyone that she meets who still identify her as the Hermione character. She added that even people that are close to her sometimes fall back to this ideology. She goes on to explain that she’s just a normal person. With the same needs like other people who struggle in life and she is aware of this fact.
Watson will be starring in Little Women alongside Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, and Meryl Streep. The film will premiere this December 25th.
