Disney is not at all planning to put their reboot train to a screeching halt. With its upcoming streaming service, Disney+ the studio will be reviving four of the most popular movie franchises from Fox following the recent Disney/Fox merger.
The four film franchises are among the multitude of intellectual property and assets that The Walt Disney Company \acquired after a $71 billion deal to buy 20th Century Fox. It comes as no surprise that the House of Mouse is giving the reboot treatment to these franchises as the studio has been cashing in on reboots and remakes recently.
News of the reboots was confirmed by CEO Bob Iger as reported by ComicBook.com. The Disney exec revealed that a “re-imagination” of the 1990 adventure comedy starring a young Macaulay Culkin will be delivered. Iger then confirmed that Ben Stiller’s Night at the Museum franchise will be rebooted as well. However, it has only been five years since the latest installment of the fantasy adventure was released. Will there be an audience for it? The same question goes for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a series that seemingly wrapped up at Fox just two years ago.
On the other hand, there’s Cheaper by the Dozen that’s already a remake of the 1950 film of the same title. Maybe Disney feels the need to re-introduce the franchise to another generation or are they still clinging to nostalgia as a seemingly surefire way to get an audience? We will soon find out when Disney+ starts streaming.
