While Colin Jost is engaged to Scarlett Johansson, the comedian used to find it hard to imagine being a married man. Jost joked about his insights on marriage prior to meeting Johansson during a stand-up set at the Guild Hall in the Hamptons last Saturday. The comedic performance was for the benefit of celiac disease research.

“It’s madness to me,” Jost said about the Hamptons. “It’s like, ‘look, I put in 1,000 bushes so I never have to see my neighbor.’ ‘Oh, who do you live next to?’ ‘Billy Joel!’ ‘You see him a lot?’ ‘No, no, he put up 2,000 bushes.’ ”

When his audience noticed the engagement band on his ring finger the Saturday Night Live comedian delved into marriage, saying, “I’m getting married and it’s such a crazy thing,” as reported by Page Six.

“I was so scared of marriage for so long because every time I talked to someone who just got married, or was about to get married, is like, ‘Oh my God, you got to do it … What could go wrong?’” he quipped.

Jost continued, “Then you talk to someone who’s been married for five years, and they’re like, ‘Don’t rush into it … you have your whole life ahead of you. Don’t have kids. They’re the worst.’”

Johansson and Jost made headlines when they got engaged in May after dating for two years. The actress was seen sporting an 11-carat ring when she appeared at the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con.
