Benedict Wong: Doctor Strange sequel set to film next year

It looks like the long-awaited Doctor Strange 2 movie is coming sooner than later and everyone has to be ready for it. Bring it on, MCU Phase 4!

Actor Benedict Wong says the sequel may begin filming in 2020. He plays Doctor Strange’s fellow sorcerer, Wong, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has appeared in the first Doctor Strange film, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame

Marvel Studios have big plans ahead as Avengers: Endgame laid down the groundwork for MCU’s highly cover Phase 4. Needless to say, fans are expecting lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch to reprise his role as Stephen Strange in the anticipated sequel. Doctor Strange is one of the superheroes expected to lead the Marvel franchise forward.

Doctor Strange’s next stand-alone film was confirmed December last year. Director Scott Derrickson was formally attached to helm the film. This only makes sense as the filmmaker co-wrote and directed the first movie chronicling the origin of the sorcerer.

Since then, no further updates had been announced until Wong appeared in a Denver, Colorado event. At the Pop Culture Con, he was asked about the current status of Doctor Strange 2. LRM Online reports that the actor officially has a writer, although he refrained from dropping any names. The actor believes the filming “may be happening sometime next year”.

Assuming Doctor Strange writers Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will return to create the sequel’s script it looks like a third writer is involved. Fans are excited to find out who Wong was referring to as he said that he had only met the writer at the Avengers: Endgame premiere.
