Tourists around the world are enamoured with the idea of a visit Down Under. The breathtaking beaches, spectacular viewpoints, and myriad activities for all ages are attractive for travellers. But a lurking issue makes the country a dangerous place to visit.

Australia is filled with wild animals whose attacks can prove fatal. Snakes are everywhere, spiders are aplenty, crocs are prowling, and shark attacks are notorious.

Australia is home to the Inland Taipan and the Eastern Brown snake, the top two most venomous snakes in the world. Red Back and Funnel Web spiders are well known for their deadly venom, but anti-venom medications have ensured that no deaths have occurred in years – from 1979 to be precise.

The stinging stonefish, commonly found in the reefs, produces unimaginable agony that can result in death from the shock alone. Saltwater crocodiles are dangerous predators and can easily cause fatalities when encountering humans.

Other dangerous creatures include box jellyfish, Great white sharks, tiger sharks, honey bees, bull sharks, red belly black snakes and common death adders to name a few – all of which can be found in Australia.

With minimal fatalities and an increase in medical opportunities for those attacked over the years, Australia has never been safer to visit.

While these creatures instill fear into the bravest of visitors, precautions are key to enjoying the phenomenal beauty Australia has to offer. And the country ensures visitors are not disappointed.

Tourists can enjoy a hot air balloon ride over the picturesque Australian Outback, or dive into the wonders of the reef, or sip on some of the finest wines in the world at any of the country’s wine regions – the options are aplenty.

Kids can enjoy the varied theme parks, swim in well-kept pools or visit wildlife zoos – Australia is one of the most child-friendly countries in the world.

The truth is that Australia’s wildlife is one of the reasons people visit too. The majestic beauty of the Great White shark is truly awe-inspiring, while the saltwater croc is something to look at – from afar, of course! Who can forget the kangaroos hopping away to glory as tourists get trigger friendly or the koalas that are so cuddle-worthy?

And there’s enough information to ensure that tourists don’t make rookie errors, provided they follow their travel guides carefully. After all, you don’t want to be petting a dingo or coming up close and personal with a snake without sufficient knowledge, do you?
