A female 007 is coming to the big screen in Bond 25

While James Bond is pulled out of retirement in the upcoming Bond film, it looks like a female agent will be taking his place as 007.

The character will be played by Lashana Lynch who is familiar to audiences as the best friend to Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. The actress’ involvement in Bond 25 was initially reported by UK’s The Daily Mail. According to the news outlet, a source close to the film’s production says that the new 007 will make an appearance as she is welcomed to the MI6 office.

“Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning,” the production insider said.

Lynch’s character Nomi marks the franchise’s evolution into something timely and relevant for 21st century audiences. The script for Bond 25 reportedly brought in Fleabag star and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge for fine-tuning. When asked if the Bond, a known womanizer, is still relevant in this “woke” era Waller-Bridge says:

“I think he’s absolutely relevant now. [The franchise] has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to his character.”

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli recently announced that Bond 25 hits theaters on April 8, 2020.
