30-year-old singer Chris Brown is not new to controversy. Heās making headlines once again as he was a no-show at a meeting with his rape accuser.
An unnamed woman accused Brown, as well as two other men he was with, of sexually assaulting her. The assault allegedly took place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Paris. Brown was arrested in January and was released later on without charge although the incident is still under further investigation.
The singer was allowed to return to the United States while the investigation in France was ongoing.
A formal meeting between the accuser and the accused was arranged on Tuesday. Brown reportedly missed the meeting. The alleged victimās lawyer blasted the singer as having no respect for the legal system of France.
The accuserās American Lawyer Gloria Allred has gone on to say that Brownās failure to appear at the meeting āis very unfair to my client, but I assure him that my client will not be deterred from seeking justice.ā
Jean-March Descoubes, the accuserās French legal representative, stressed that Brown wasnāt legally mandated to attend the formal meeting. The other two suspects accused were also a no-show and the meeting will be postponed in the future according to Descoubes.
In addition to this, Descoubes said āIf he doesnāt show up a second time we will have to either ask for the preliminary investigation to be closed (to allow for an investigative judge take over the procedure) because we just canāt keep going like this.
āOr we will ask the prosecutor to put in place more coercive measures, a warrant to get him to come because the confrontation requested by our client is key to this case ā a sexual abuse case.ā
Chris Brownās representatives have yet to address the issue.
