Kendrick Lamar and Lorde will be headlining this year’s Splendour in the Grass music festival in Byron Bay.
The festival doesn’t kick off until July but fans have been anticipating the release of the line-up since tickets went on sale late last year.
The music festival has been held annually since 2001 in the Byron Bay region having recently established the North Byron Bay Parklands as its home since 2013. It is now one of the biggest festivals in Australia and is officially the largest winter festival in the nation.
Having originally begun as a one-day festival it has grown to cater for 30,000 people each year across three huge days of live music and activities. It is well-known for its big line-ups year in year out and 2018 certainly hasn’t disappointed.
Lorde is coming off her second studio album that has unsurprisingly seen an extremely popular reception as she brings back her meaningful lyrics whilst maintaining an upbeat vibe. The New Zealand singer’s latest album Melodrama was nominated for album of the year at the 2018 Grammy Awards following a strong debut album in which her song Royals took home two Grammys.
Kendrick Lamar is the other headline act to make it to the festival fresh off a Grammy Award-winning album DAMN that took home Best Rap Album for 2018. Kendrick Lamar is regularly spoken about as one of, if not the, world’s best rappers in the current era having now backed with multiple Grammy Awards.
Khalid will also be returning after a successful run of Australian shows in November last year. The Texas R&B singer took the world by storm with his debut album American Teen rising rapidly up the charts and peaking at number 4. His singles Location, Young Dumb & Broke and Saved all managed to feature in the top 100 amongst others.
Australia’s best talent will also be on show at the Byron Bay festival with Angus and Julia Stone, Hilltop Hoods, Gang of Youths, Amy Shark, Touch Sensitive and Dune Rats all named to play.
There will also be plenty of international acts going around with Franz Ferdinand, CHVRCHES, Khalid and The Wombats all making the journey Down Under to play at the nation’s biggest winter festival.
