Why Pete Davidson missed out on the SNL season premiere

Pete Davidson’s absence from Saturday Night Live’s season 45 premiere didn’t go unnoticed.

Viewers of the show’s first episode for this season missed the stand-up and now we know why. It’s safe to say Davidson’s plate is pretty full as of the moment. As it turns out, the comic had to miss last weekend’s show to work on James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel. The comic book adaptation is currently in production at Atlanta, Georgia.

But Davidson’s job was more about pleasure than business at the time. It appears that the comedian attended a special screening of Todd Phillip’s Joker. He was joined by the whole cast of Suicide Squad 2 including Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and even the film’s director Gunn himself.

After the screening, Gunn posted a photo of him and his cast on social media. The filmmaker captioned his Instagram post: “Some of #TheSuicideSquad (and Pom). Many of us are doing weird things in this photo. After a screening of Joker (thanks @wbpictures!).” See the Suicide Squad sequel’s ensemble cast below:

The film’s plot has been kept under wraps with very few details revealed. However, we do know that the storyline will be more of a “relaunch” of the franchise rather than a continuing sequel. Gunn recently announced the actors starring in the film and noticeably left out is Jared Leto who played Joker in the first flick. The diversion from the original 2016 movie comes after it received backlash from critics and audiences. Many of whom say Suicide Squad didn’t live up to the hype surrounding it.
