What to expect from the new LG G7 phone

LG will soon announce its latest flagship phone, the new G7 ThinQ. The official launch is expected on May 2nd and the event will be held in New York City. The next day, on May 3rd the company has also planned an unboxing event in their home country and will present their new device in Seoul.

Even though the phone will publicly be introduced in the upcoming week, assumptions and leaks are already circulating around the web. One of the most popular phone leakers, Evan Blass, has already posted a photo to his Twitter account, revealing the design of the new device.

As the new flagship phone will carry the “ThinQ” mark, it will be a new addition to LG’s devices enhanced with artificial intelligence. The AI features are most likely expected on camera, adding the ability to identify your focus object and automatically optimize phone camera settings, in order to produce the perfect photo.

The new LG G7 ThinQ will come in five different colours

According to recently leaked render, the new G7 ThinQ will be available in five different colours, featuring some trendy smartphone colours such as blue and rose. It is rumoured that the colour names will be Raspberry Rose, Moroccan Blue, Moroccan Blue (Matt version), Platinum Grey and Aurora Black.

When it comes to overall phone design, it will follow the latest all-screen front trend, with a notch on top, where front camera is conventionally placed. The back is expected to be glassed and plain, featuring the now inseparable smartphone duo – dual-lens camera and fingerprint scanner. This time, LG decided to go with a vertical camera, replacing the horizontal position as seen on LG G6.

According to the latest Twitter leaks, the new device will have modern look with slightly rounded metal frame edges. It is rumoured that the power button will be located on the right edge of the phone while left side will supposedly feature the AI button.

As all smartphones are heading toward the ultimate no-bezel design, the new LG G7 will definitely have smaller bezels around the screen, which will differentiate it from the last years model.

LG’s new flagship phone will feature a bright and colourful screen

The one of the most promising leaks is the quality of the G7’s screen display. According to the latest rumours, LG G7 ThinQ will feature a bright screen with more white pixels than any previous LG smartphone device. The new screen design are expected to be more bright and colourful than the G6 and maybe have as twice as much white pixels.

It is still not clear whether the new screen will be LCD or OLED, even though LG announced switching to OLED screens on new devices. It is rumoured that the company will still keep up with the LCD in order to reduce the costs. However, it is expected that the new screen is HDR10-compatible, meaning that it will be able to view HDR content.

In addition, the notch on the top of the screen might even be optional, due to the newly added settings which will hide it by blacking out the screen. Although this option will hide the notch, it will still show battery usage and time in the top side corners.

G7 ThinQ expected specs and storage

The new G7 will feature a double-lens back camera, 16MP each, where one will be a 107-degree wide-angle and the other will have an f/1.6 aperture. The rumours are phrasing the low light camera setting and expected “Bright Mode”, claiming that it can apparently improve the lighting by combining pixels and produce up to four times brighter content.

In addition, the camera will offer a manual mode, live photo and portrait mode among different modes and effects. ThinQ AI feature will be able to detect the scene and focus object of your session and recommend ideal camera setting to improve your photo quality. 2D and 3D stickers will also be available should you wish to add some fun to your images.

The 2018 LG G7 model will have 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and will come equipped with Snapdragon 845 chipset and a “Boombox Speaker”, which promises larger speaker and louder audio. Voice recognition will be upgraded allowing users to communicate with their smart device while being up to 17 feet away, while the phone will have better integration with Google Assistant.

The new G7 ThinQ will also come with unique and exclusive 32 device-specific tasks which Assistant can perform and bring voice control experience to another level. All in all, according to these leaks and rumours it looks like LG tried to improve and replace all weak and lacking spots of the 2017 model. We will see if their upcoming device will meet the users’ expectations when the company officially unboxes their new flagship phone next week in New York.
