Touted as grudge match between the former-Broncos coach and the man who took his job, the Rabbitohs vs Broncos match was anything but a spectacle. In fact, the outcome of the match was seemingly decided by half-time, with the Rabbitohs leading 24-0, largely thanks to some Cody Walker brilliance.
The game
Cody Walker led from the front for the Rabbits, scoring two tries in a matter of minutes to leave the Broncos decimated. The Broncosā forwards were incredibly poor, doing very little to protect 18-year-old half, Tom Dearden, who was commendable on debut. The Broncosā only try came in the 54th minute, however, it was short-lived as the Bunnies piled on two more tries.
The tumultuous history
Bennett was sacked by the Broncos in December of last year, assuming the coaching duties of South Sydney while Anthony Seibold assumed command at the Broncos. This effectively completed one of the messier coaching swaps in the NRL. Itās clear that Bennettās departure has left a gaping hole at the Brisbane club, with the Broncos languishing near the bottom of the ladder with a mere 2 wins from 8 outings. Alternatively, Bennett has led the Rabbitohs to 7 wins from 8 and a favourable points-differential of +81. Despite this, Bennett is emphatic that the club is still yet to find its best form and the fact that many of their wins have been scrappy would support this.
Tribute to Inglis
In a tribute to Greg Inglis, many of the Rabbitohs players celebrated their tries in the 38-6 victory with the āGoannaā celebration, which was Inglisā primary form of celebration.
